Awesome, thank you! I have a free trial 2 or 3 years ago, but this worked for me.
Just a FYI...it will still ask for your credit card info because you'll be charged if you don't cancel it within the month. Just keep clicking through, and you'll get the confirmation at the end that you have 1 month free.
Now, I've gotta go mark my calendar so I don't forget to cancel it later on. I love Amazon Prime, but I don't use it enough to justify to $79 per year expense.

Simply enter your account and then turn off the automatic upgrade. You basically have a worry-free month trial. It just ends prime automatically and you won't ever be charged. It's very simple.
Thanks OP. I had this about 2 yrs ago when I got a free $10 GC from them. Perrfect timing for holiday shopping.

Thanks, I will go do that now.
Perfect timing for this...I'm ready to do some Christmas shopping.

If you don't cancel within the trial period, you will be charged 79 bucks for a year's membership of Amazon prime. You can cancel even after you are charged provided you didn't use prime after the trial period even once.

Click on the Amazon prime link that you would follow to get to the free trial. Now the link will read "manage your membership." Click this and it will take you to your account. In the top left box you can change from automatic upgrade. Also, you can invite family members to share in on the free trial which will probably allow people to get this free trial that may not be eligible. Hope that helps.
anon888 said: Where is the "automatically upgrade"?After your confirmation of free trial, on the confirmation page, on the top left hand side, there's a link called 'view payment details'. click on it. on the following page, again on the top left hand side, click on the button that says 'Do Not Upgrade' and confirm. You are set for 1 month of Free Prime membership until Dec 21st from today
I don't see any mention of "free" even after I chose a credit card and a shipping address and I am currently on the page where it says "Sign up for Amazon Prime - $79". Will it confirm the free 30 days only after this page?
Absolutely works, and I had a prime trial back in the day. Now if Amazon had no tax to NY, that would be a very merry xmas. Confirmed there was a button that says "START YOUR FREE TRIAL" and nothing about being charged up front. Went in an turned off auto upgrade as well.
After all the entering, including credit card, it says I am not eligible "because our records indicate that you are currently or have previously been a paid or trial member of Amazon Prime."
Worked for me! Be sure to go back into your account page a day or two after signing up, and click on "remove from automatic renewal" so that you don't get charged the usual $79 to continue the service (unless you buy lots of stuff and want to keep the Prime membership, of course).
The fine print says its for new members only. I didn't try it yet, but it probably won't work for me. I tried the trial once before. Unless there is some way to get around that.
Edit: Nevermind, it just worked for me, and I didn't do anything different.
Funny thing is I was thinking of getting the Left 4 Dead 2 game for $40 from Amazon, soon as I upgraded to this Prime, then the price of the L4D2 game goes up to $45 in my cart. Typical Amazon prices that change hourly... I hate that. They probably did it because I joined Prime.
I didn't see anything about a free trial either. I did have a free trial a few years ago. What I did today was sign out of Amazon and go back to the homepage and start the process over. I then got the free trial offer. It had me sign in, enter my credit card information, and confirm everything, but it was clear about the free trial. You will know for sure if you got it free because the confirmation screen lists the following:

It didn't work for me, but it worked for my wife. I have had the free trial twice and also was charged for one year membership when I forgot to cancel auto-renewal (of course Amazon refunded once they confirmed that I didn't use the service). May be that's why it didn't work for me. My wife has had the free trial once a couple of years ago and never had paid membership.

In case you think you might forget to cancel the auto-renewal, you can cancel the auto-renewal right after you sign up for the free trial. You don't have to wait even a day or an hour for that matter.
