Just checked their Value of the day and it's a $348 laptop. Ships for less then .97cents or i can pick up in store..
Pretty basic, but atleast I don't have to wait inlines this week to get something cheap for my wife and kid to use..

Linky

Wow nice -- wives everywhere should be grateful.

i think the same configure laptop is at microcenter for $299

You may not have to wait in lines but your wife and kids will do plenty of waiting to get things done with this laptop with only 2GB of RAM.

God the internet is full of idiot experts.

isn't the bestbuy deal for $250 had the similar config?

update:
ok found it....that one has Intel Celeron processor.
Still good deal for $300+tax.

I like it, good for kids. As a 'wife' I prefer Sony and Toshiba, but I've always bought my own things, I certainly wouldn't complain if someone gave me one of these as a gift.

This one at Microcenter seems comparable, available only at store. Nice price at $299.00, for any that live near a location. If our kids were old enough to graduate from PC to laptop, I would jump on it.

Would be nice if you had included the specs in the title, or at least inside the post:

Acer 15.6" Laptop with MD Athlon 64 TF-20 Processor
# 15.6" HD widescreen display
# 160GB - plenty of storage space
# 2GB memory for fast system response
3.9 out of 5 Stars

Apples to oranges...

Well, I want the Aveo for 8 grand to have heated leather seats also.
And a moonroof.

I just don't see how these specs are anything special for $348. Especially since you'll also have to pay tax, as compared to some other on-line merchant with no tax.

This is the same config that they are offering on BF for $198, except that one will be an eMachines. If you're on a limited budget, I would suggest waiting and trying to snag one of the eMachines; otherwise, you're still better off going for any of the several laptops around $300 with a Celeron 900 which will be offered on BF. That AMD TF-20 is a real dog - prob around 60% the speed of Celeron 900, which is itsself relatively underpowered compared to any modern dual core. It's a shame they paired a decent chipset with good integrated graphics (AMD 3200) with such a low end CPU. The only thing that might this purchase worthwhile would be if you plan on tearing the machine down and upgrading the CPU yourself with some sort of dual core.

Agreed. I bought a dual-core Toshiba Satellite for a dollar more two weeks ago and there will be better deals for the money on Black Friday as well.

Yep, I want a basic dual core processor for this price, not a slow sluggy single core.

RE:

Speak for yourself.
I pay none.

I bought this same one from Best Buy a few months ago when it was I think 299.00 I had a 70.00 gift card so it was a no brainer for me. I'm happy
with it. As a matter of fact I use it almost all the time now, even though I have more powerful desktops scattered throughout the house.
I haven't looked myself, but I think you can add another 2 gig stick to it. I'm running triple boot with windows vista, xp and windows 7. I use
xp most of the time. I have no complaints, at least for the price I paid.

Some other comparisons might be:
You may not have to wait in lines but your wife and kids will do plenty of waiting to get places with this car with only 250 HP under the hood.
You may not have to wait in lines but your wife and kids will do plenty of waiting to get hot water with this water heater with only 50 gal. of capacity.
You may not have to wait in lines but your wife and kids will do plenty of waiting to get files with this ISP with only 8 Mbps of bandwidth.
You may not have to wait in lines but your wife and kids will do plenty of waiting to get bugs repelled with this repellent with only 50% of DEET.

2GB is fine for 95% of the population. Heck, most of the computers I see every day running XP have 512mb or 1gb RAM. Even under W7, 2gb is plenty for most computer users, as are 120gb hard drives and 17" monitors. Top 2 applications on the great majority of home computers? Email and browser. How much RAM does that eat? Not very much. In fact, running a media server, full AV, anti-spyware, software firewall, email client, browser, and spreadsheet eats up all of 1gb on my machine. Yeah, I can pull up some games and other apps to eat up another gig, but the wife and kids won't. Anything more than 2gb of RAM would be a total waste.
