There's a distinct possibility that I just got incredibly lucky, but wanted to share in the event that this might help other FW'ers. I'm going to be as detailed as possible, but if anyone has any questions, feel free to post in the thread or PM me.
I'm about a year and a half into my first AT&T contract (had been on a corporate plan prior) with the Curve 8310. I had wanted to upgrade to the new bold, for $199.99 AR (pricing on the website). Logged in to my account to check the options for promo pricing and found out I was eligible for a $50 "VIP" credit (there was no explanation in the account - it was just there), making it $149.99 AR. Was ready to buy, but decided to take a walk to the store first to check the thing out in person and compare it to the iPhone 3gs, which I was also thinking about.
Anyway, the in-store price was $249.99 with a $100 rebate...$50 less than the site. I played around with it and really liked it. Asked the associate what my promo pricing eligibility was. He pulled up my account, told me I was eligible for a $100 up-front discount if I signed another 2-year contract (price down to $149.99), another $50 discount for filling out a customer satisfaction survey (I'm assuming this is the same "VIP credit" that I could have gotten online - price down to $100) and the $100 MIR. Walked out paying $108.88 with tax and have the $100 rebate yet to come...when all is said and done, I'll have paid $8.88 for the phone.
I don't have a scanner, but I'll try to do something to show the receipt...it's showing $100 for the phone after a $150 "2 yr agreement savings"
I'm thinking I may have just gotten lucky and as such, this is probably a major YMMV, but if anyone else is looking to upgrade, it could be worth a shot. Based on my first few hours, it's an incredible phone. For anyone in NYC, this was at the store on 44th and Lex - across the street from Grand Central...
Check out this AT&T oxymoron: "...the higher your monthly rate plan and data-package rates, the more you’ll save."
They might have made a mistake in the store since those AT&T folks seem pretty desperate to make a sale. If you're 24+ months since your last contract, you can get up to $150 rebate, depending on what your monthly bill was.
Check your new contract closely. When I went from no contract to signing a new 2-year deal, they were supposed to keep the same exact terms; instead, they tried to get rid of my unlimited text plan without telling me.

Overall, sounds like a good deal for you.
Thanks for the tip...I'm only ~17 months from the last contract, which was why this seemed a little surprising to me. As far as the contract, I checked it pretty carefully and the only change was dropping BlackBerry Business with enterprise support for Blackberry personal. My new company uses BIS, not BES, so I didn't need the business plan - Ends up saving $15 a month.
You're right though - it may have just been desperation for a sale. Hopefully someone else can benefit from this find.
I got a similar deal today at the AT&T store on lower broadway near wall street. Re-upped for the 2yr contract. Receipt says $100 for the phone with $150 savings for signing the 2yr contract. Throw in the $100 rebate card and I paid $8.80 for the brand new blackberry bold 2.
