I picked this up when this was $499 3 weeks ago (aarghhh!!!), seems almost worth the price for just the Blu-ray re-writer...
Newegg Link

smallnetbuilder review here.

So how do you like this setup?

has immense Active Directory issues, check out the reviews.

for whom like me without AD setup at home, it seems a good box with BlueRay re-writer.

thanks!

So I am guessing you can use the Blu-ray writer just like if the drive was installed in your computer? Or can it only be used to backup files?

I would like to burn HD home movies onto blu-ray discs that can play on a blu-ray player. I wonder if this can do it.

will it run windows home server or windows server?

smallnetbuilder said: three USB 2.0 ports, one eSATA port, an SD,MMC,MS,xD card reader and, of most notably, a built-in Blu-ray rewriter. The USB ports can be used for printer sharing, UPS synchronization and backup to/from USB storage devices. But neither USB nor eSATA storage can be shared or used for storage expansion.

smallnetbuilder said: NAS backup is primarily dependent on the Blu-ray rewriter, with daily, weekly and monthly scheduling frequency. Scheduled network backup via rsync has been added in the latest 2898 firmware. But neither USB nor eSATA attached drives can be used for backup.

given the two statements above from the smallnetbuilder article, i'm wondering what the esata port can be used for, if not for shared storage, storage expansion, or backup. any ideas?

still nothing on whether the BD writer can be used by a PC to burn normally or just for internal backup of the NAS.

Hi!

I have some questions about this NAS:

1. Does it support up to 4TB storage capacity? I mean, four 2TB hard disks
2. Can the BD writer be used as a usual BD player/recorder? Can you burn normally pc files? Can you play comercial Blurays? Can you rip a Bluray?
3. I will use it connected to a Asus O!Play. Will it recognize it? Has anybody prove it? I use a Asus o!Play, but it's importar if the LG N4B1N is compatible with the Xtreamer, the popcorn Hour and other streamers.
4. Can the LG N4B1N play files up to 4 Gb? I mean HD rip movies or Bluray iso.

Thanks in advance.

2. Can the BD writer be used as a usual BD player/recorder? Can you burn normally pc files? Can you play comercial Blurays? Can you rip a Bluray? "this does have not have video out nor can you run software on it for ripping"

"you may be looking for something with a home server type OS, this isn't meant to be one it is primarily file storage"
4. Can the LG N4B1N play files up to 4 Gb? I mean HD rip movies or Bluray iso. "you mount the file system via share or another method if you have the bandwidth your machine will play it" It's not Fat32 which is the file system with a 4gb limitation.

Thanks in advance.

ALso I should mention that formatting and syncing 4 2tb drives in raid 5 will run you around 16 hours possibly more. "it was 8 hours for 4x500 in raid 5"

For anyone looking for a NAS, it's available with a 1tb samsung 5400rpm hard drive for 9$ more.

COMBO DEAL
