From a review on Newegg, it appears this one can be powered by the USB ports:
Pros: Back when I bought this elsewhere (December 2008) it was the cheapest 500GB external drive available. It worked great out of the box. Speed has never been an issue, for my use (storage, video editing, occasional game played from the drive). The cable includes a Y-splitter so that you can use the power available from 2 USB ports instead of 1, but with my MacBook I've found that one USB port is sufficient (and thankfully so, wouldn't want one drive taking up my only USB ports!)

combine this with 25 off 75 and the deal comes close to yesterday's 39.99 500gb Toshiba HDD deal from office max. for those who missed it. of course you need a 5.01 dollars filler. which is not hard to get @ Staples. added rep pts.

Perhaps they are referring to the size of the housing.
And a note from a Newegg review which indicates it can be powered from USB ports:

Thanks OP. Got one.
Bought $25 off $75 coupon from eBay. Coupon works, along with the instant $10 off. Had to add some filler materials though. Now, crossing fingers on the reliability of this drive!
Looked at this in depth this AM when Staples sent out the email. It has TERRIBLE reviews. It stops working so some people and can't be reformatted. I was about to jump on the deal and use my ink rebates making it almost free, but after the reviews I'm going to wait for a real brand name.
