http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136416&...

This is $30 off the regular price as part of holiday special at Newegg.com.

Please note: it is not the WD TV HD media player or the WD TV HD Live media player.

great price for all sd content (dvd quality). Only thing to note is it does not have hdmi (might be a problem for some)

This one can do RM or RMVB 8/9/10. All other WD players can not do that.

the non-mini WDTV was on sale for 50 after 25off75 yesterday at Staples.com

ASUS O!Play has more than the WD and LAN is on sale at Buy.com $149.99 bundle or Amazon has it without the Bundle for $99.

more in the price range... This Sony is $56 and has HDMI.

These are USB the O!Play plays all card reader formats, USB, eSAT, an LAN thus the price is $99. Although the Sony is cheap for only USB.

Very few of these units show they will play VOB files. I have thousands of movies ripped to HDD in dvd folders that I will not take the time to convert to something else. I have converted a few for testing purposes and find that those converted to mpeg are very poor quality compared to the dvd rips.

I bought a KWorld M101 from Newegg and it plays my VOB files very nicely. Only thing is a slight pause when it goes from one file to the next, as the dvd rips are cut into 1gb files in the folder. And of course no HDMI option.

Can someone recommend the best typs of file to convert to for the best viewing quality and versatility?

not a bad deal but if I was buying a media player might as well get one that does HD.

I got an xbox 1 that can pretty much play anything except HD.

I have seven Hauppauge MediaMVP network media player (wired/wireless) requires PC, media server or HTPC! They're old 480i but still play DivX, Xvid, MPEG1, MPEG2 without issues and can get you on the internet and view this forum, weather, traffic cam an more. But this Sony SMP-U10 is brand new and there is no data except for Amazon and Sony UK site. I am going to order it and see how good it is. WD TV HD this one had issues. There is WD TV HD 2 with LAN features. The Sony does support HD Jpeg and HDMI.

Amazon has the Patriot Box Office at 99.99 AR. That takes a internal 2.5"HDD, better than the o!play.

the only review for the Sony one:

A quick FYI if you go for the Sony media player.............use Discover and save $10.............at Amazon
