Just got back from Costco. They have instant rebates on a number of CFL bulbs. The best seems to be $0.99 (+ tax) out the door for a 4-pack of 23W (100W equivalent incandescent) bulbs. Did not see any statement of limit.

Mind posting more detail on this? Like brand and which store you found this...

I just realized CFL could work with dimmer. So definitely will buy some.

As far as I understand, only certain ones specifically made to can work with a dimmer.

True...I just put a bunch in a chandalier I got from Lowes. When I use the dimmer switch it takes a slight pause, then all turn on at full brightness. Then if I move the dimmer up and down they stay on at the same brightness (no dimming) and dont shut off till I click the dimmer all the way down.

Last time I was in Lowes I saw that there were some "Instant On" CFLs. I guess those would get rid of the delay in turning on. Or maybe they don't take the time to "warm up" that I have seen in others where they are real dim for a minute or two before getting to normal brightness. I have not seen the ones that dim, but I have heard they exist.

Same deal at Lowes

which costco did u go? is this nationwide?

Lowes and HD carry dimmable CFLs. They're not as common as the non-dimmables. The package has to specifically state "dimmable" or you can assume they aren't.
Using non-dimmable CFLs in a dimmer can kill the integrated ballast. I wouldn't recommend leaving those regular CFLs in your chandelier. Regarding the instant-on CFLs, I read that they tend to have a shorter life because of the stress caused by the pre-strike circuitry.

OP - where did you see the deal? Different regions' utility companies have different rebate programs.
