So I don't need to purchase a LCD TV.
I general, yes. You have to remember though that projectors have either no speakers, or worthless speakers, and generally have limited inputs. Ideally what you should do is(what I do), run your cable box/PS3/Xbox/etc. all into an HDMI switching reciver, and then run an HDMI cable to the projector. That way, the audio goes to some decent external speakers and the video for all your inputs gets passed all through 1 cable to the PJ.
Review said: The HC1600 is a 1700 lumen, 2500:1 contrast 720p DLP projector that produces a solid image. Accurate color and a bright, powerful image make the HC1600 ideal for photography and still graphics, but its 2x speed color wheel may hinder its application in video, sports, and gaming for those who are sensitive to rainbow artifacts. The HC1600 can be found for street prices around $1,000.
This is not much of a deal but the Epson 8100 which is a brand new 1080p projector is currently $1399 at Best Buy. Considering it sells for $1499 after rebate elsewhere, this is the cheapest I've seen so far for this model. Epson 8100 at Best Buy
I agree I could see the rainbow effect if you flicker your eyes fast and swing. But for $399, come on...........you bring your theater to home

I got one four years ago and have just replaced my first bulb. Love it. great bang for buck then at a grand. If you got one for $400, you're in for hours of fun!
Anyone else been able to pick one up? I'm out of the country, but I'm thinking of asking a family member to try their luck if anyone else has been able to find the same deal.

Only one store in my area has it even in stock and its $599
Just scored the dispaly model with 111hrs on the bulb and a free mount for $299 at the Marin City, CA location! I have 30 days to decide if I want the 2yr extended warranty that includes 1 bulb replacement for $199

that was the price they showed for me. I had them call the Brentwood store to price match and they took my word for it. Bestbuy policy is to match other store pricing. I have made them call before when I bought guitar hero.

When did their policy change? In the past you always had to get a Price Adjustment or Return/Rebuy as they didn't match other Best Buys clearance prices.

I did it when Guitar Hero Aerosmith went on clearance about 6 months ago. They have a book at customer service that has all the store phone numbers.

Thanks. Maybe I'll give it a try tomorrow. There is a store that is 1.5hrs away that had it for $399. I just wonder if its even at stock at the one that has it for $599 since it said only one available.
You may get lucky like I did and find the low hour display with full manufacturer warranty for $299 like I did. If you go to bestbuy and search for a product that would most likely be in stock at most locations and search my zip cod 94941 you will the Marin city store number and phone number. The managers name was Minh. Show up with that info in hand and as for the $299 price.
I went to BB in Rochester, NY and they just got a display item which is dummy shell, when I asked if available at other near by BB, rep told this is something that is discontinued and so it is not available...good for who can find one..
Tried finding this and the store only had 2 or 3 projectors period. If someone that scored one could post the freaking SKU it would probably make this considerably easier for everyone to check out...
OK finally dug up the SKU that apparently the Ebayers or whatever didn't want to provide.
Sorry to revive a thread in its death throws, but I happened on this thread last Friday and found one locally for $500. Anyone care to weigh in on whether they would consider this projector worth it? I would be replacing a Epson S1+ with it. Thanks!
I bought two of them, one for $399 and one display model with 29 hours used on it for $360. Excellent deal, huge upgrade from my 4805. Thanks OP, green.

That's plenty bright for a projector. You should be in a light controlled room (anything w/o curtains will be a washout). If you get much beyond in Lumens, the bounce-back from the wall will be hard on the eyes.
This is a great deal on a well reviewed projector.
