When we were planning on going to Disney World this year, we looked into gps tracking devices for children (I have 5 children, 2 very little ones). If you have a younger child, they are simply amazing and can avert a serious situation. Anyway, they are having a BF/Cyber Monday sale (no 1 or 2 year contracts!)

Amber Alert Child Locator Devices BF Sale

Happy Deal Hunting!

Warmly,

beaglette

Leashes are a cheaper option...plus, doesn't this device have to be with your child for it to work? What if you stick it in his backpack or pocket and the kid gets lost and loses his backpack or pants?

I can see losing the backpack but hopefully he/she would not lose their pants.

Another option may be the Brickhouse Child Locator

What if a sex offender rips them off and tosses them out the van window?

A cheaper way to do this is to buy an Android phone, and install a free software called "Where's my Droid." Plus, you get a great phone in the bargain.

Since "Where's My Droid" doesn't have an SOS button, Temperature Zone, Safe Zone, Speed Alert, Bread Crumbing, Destination Alert or Voice Monitoring, there's really no comparison, right?

If you have 5 small kidlets like I do, you'd recognize the value of this!!

According to this CNET report, it looks like Brickhouse is the same as the Amber Alert GPS:

Man that is an expensive month-to-month plan to access the real good features.

Someone should do this at a lower price so more parents can afford to keep their kids safe.

The cell service cost is what hurts with all of these tracking services. Too bad one of the carriers don't cut a deal for a less expensive service. I guess if people are willing to pay as it is then they don't have to but they'd hugely increase their business at 1/2 or 1/3 of the current monthly cost.

(edit....Ahhhh....not worth my rant.....)

Could be a serial rapist or murderer, doesn't have to be a sex offender. STOP profiling!!

from the site said: 203,900 children are victims of family abductions every year

Seems like an awful high number ... i tried to make sense of the study but couldn't.

I can seriously see the need for these with 5 kids OP. The cost does suck tho .....

Mmm... and then what would happen?

If you have 5 kids and can only afford 2 of these, how do u determine which kids get them?

There is no sex offender registry on any other planet, thus you can't be too safe when your children leave Earth.
