Fry's has in the flyer for today only, Nov 25 (closed tomorrow), an Intel Dual Core E6300 CPU and MSI G31TM-P21 MB combo for $79.99 before $20 mail in rebate. The motherboard by itself is $47.99 on Fry's.com HERE ($45 on Newegg) The CPU by itself is $84.99 on Fry's.com HERE ($73 on Newegg)
Seems pretty hot for a basic build. The Intel E6300 is a 2.8GHz wolfdale 45nm 65W Dual Core CPU. Don't know anything about the MSI MB other than it has basic on-board video (and of course sound) and uses dual DDR2 800/677MHz.
Similar combo (different MSI motherboard) was $89.99 after rebate a couple months ago as shown HERE. The MSI G31M3-F V2, which I'm not sure is the same as the one from two months ago, is currently listed on Frys.com for $45, just like the G31TM-P21 in the current combo.
Looked up the Intel G31 chipset and it's pretty basic. The chipset supports (not sure about the motherboard) Up to 4GB of 800MHz DDR2. Four SATA and two ATA/100 (one IDE controller). Upto 8 USB 2.0 ports. 16x PCI express slot, not 2.0 compatible, and PCI slots (2 on MB). The G3100 integrated graphics isn't suitable for gaming or even really HTPC use, so anything beyond basic computer tasks and browsing should look to adding a video card.
Could always just buy it just for the CPU and get around $10 back by ebaying the motherboard...
Also at Fry's grab the Antec 300 case for $24 after $15 rebate and WD 80GB SATA 7200 for $18 and have the start of a nice cheap system.
Thx OP! I didn't reply b/c I was running to Fry's before other FWers. Picked this up, and also took your advice and got the Antec 300 and WD 80GB. Also picked up Corel VideoStudio X2 for FAR, and a Yoda Sitter (for some reason - I couldn't help myself).

I think the 80gb is a refurb. Hard drive is probably the only computer component that I wouldn't buy refurbed. Even for a cheap pc, spend the extra for new. Fry's recently had hard drives from $44 to $57 for 500gb to 750gb. I'm pretty sure it'll pop up again soon, for BF or Cyber Monday. Newegg will have the 640gb black WD for $50 in their BF sale.
