I just got a 21.5 Imac (the newest release) from Amazon.com for $1257.56 with applecare. Both the computer and applecare are discounted. Applecare is $127.48 and the computer is 1129.98. If you were to get this through apple it would be over $1400, around $1460. You can also sign up to use the Amazon.com store card (it's a line of credit you can only use at Amazon.com), and you'll receive 24months free financing.
NO, it has nothing do with a student discount. I'm not a student or a parent of one, and I just paid that price. Also, I didn't pay tax. Amazon only charges tax in some states, I'm guess it's only the states that they ship out of (ie where their shipping facilities are). If you order through apple, you will pay tax most likely because apple has a retail store in probably every state. If there is a retail store in your state you will be charged tax.
I think this is going to be a lightning deal in about an hour. It lasts about a second if the Macbook Pro is an example. Good luck!

About $600 worth of hardware for twice the price. If you really want a Mac (and to be legal) you are better off buying a Mini (and refurb at that). Realistically, the speed difference will most likely be negligible.
I have the Imac 27" . Make sure you buy the apple care from Amazon. Pay with DC and its around $116. Buy it from apple not square trade or BB for example. The apple warranty does not cover accidents or power surge but the phone support is worth the price. It costs 49 bucks a call after the 90 day support period. 3 calls in three years and you are ahead. Not to mention it costs $90 just to get one looked at.
Nosatalian....Unfortunately, you can't get a mini with a 3.06 core 2 duo, or keyboard, or a mouse, or a screen, or the ability to upgrade to 16gb for $1200. The highest end processor in a mini is a 2.53 w/ a 500gb HD and the price is $999. So you've lost me...plus mac mini refurb's are hard to come by.
It's kind of back....now being sold again by Amazon. But the imac is $1149 and the applecare isn't sold through Amazon (i'm not sure if that matters). But you still get free shipping and no tax. So you'll save about $200 if you were to buy it from Apple.com or in an Apple Store.
