looks like a pretty good deal to me.

WalMart.com has the D90 body only for 809.88, shipping is 97 cents. after 15% Cash Back from bing.com, the camera is about 689.5.

with the Nikon 50mm f/1.8D AF Nikkor Len (125.00 from Amazon), you will have a great semi pro dslr w/ a very sharp lens for about 810.00. (the default Nikon 90 w/ the mediocre lens is about 1000).

good deal OP

Is the 28-135 lens really mediocre?

[Woops] Error on my side... toop much turkey... sorry ya'll [/woops]

Amazon just dropped the 2 lens Nikon D40 kit to $439.99.. cheaper than the clearance models from Target, since there is no sales tax, for me in California.

You don't want a 50mm with a non full frame DSLR like the D90, you need something closer to 35mm to get the same viewing angle as a regular film camera. And the 18mm-55mm VR may be made out of light plastic but its image quality is pretty darn good for the price. Just have to be careful you don't break the plastic mount on it

It's the best price I've seen on the D90 body in quite a while. I almost bit about six months ago when I
could have gotten it for around $670. I think I'll bite this time. Thanks!

Newegg is still good at 10% Bing off their price of $794.99 with $1.99 shipping. Just ordered one at 11:15 AM EST.

just snagged me one today! Thanks OP! Best deal yet on the D90.

got one. Perfect for an upcoming trip to Asia. Also got a 55-200VR lens from Staples as well.

Any good deal on 16-85 VR lens?

How do you get 10% CashBack from Newegg? This might be the cheaper route considering I have to pay tax at WalMart.com.

If you're looking for the 16-85mm VR, Dell has it and you can get 20% BCB: $650 - 130 = $520 + tax & shipping.

What?!?

The 50mm f1.4 or f1.8 are great, sharp lenses. They complement the D90 nicely. With the sensor crop, it comes out to 75mm, but that's perfectly fine for portraits (or really, anything else you want to shoot for that matter).

Newegg ran out of money and stopped the Bing CB Saturday at 6:40 AM PST per a Newegg supervisor that I chatted with.

I don't think he was saying they're not great lenses, just that with a 1.6 crop factor that 50mm becomes a bit long for your only lens. I'd have to agree. If you're just going to get one prime lens to start off with it should be the 35mm f/1.8.

out of stock at Newegg..

that is a good deal... very, very tempting this time around. =)

Reots is right on the spot thou, the 50mm on a APS-C sensor makes it a 75mm, sure it's good for portraits but it's too long for most people as a general purpose lens. I <3 my 50mm F/1.4 and my 85mm F/1.8, but on my DX format cameras I prefer the 35mm F/2 bar none.

Don't forget WalMart charges taxes, so if you live in CA you can basically chop that 15% in half....

I bought one earlier this morning and they canceled my order. Not sure why but this deal might be off

I've also seen some reviewer complaints about the camera/lens box just being thrown into a larger box for shipping with little to no packaging. FYI.

I'm the OP and I got email today that my D90 is on the way to the WalMart I am going to pick up.

Not too much I can't make look pretty sweet with my 50mm f/1.8 and my D90 - definitely a spectacular lens and the bokeh (out of focus blurry area on wide aperture shots) is beautiful.

The normal "kit" lens for the D90 - 18-105mm VR isn't that bad, the lens can be had relatively inexpensively on the aftermarket (as many folks are upgrading to 18-200mm), but the distortion at the edges is a bit strong, and the autofocus is a touch slow. You might be better off with just the 50mm, the cheap but awesome 18-55mm, and the 55-200mm VR as 3 good starter lenses.

Taking price and performance into consideration...is this better or worse than the current D5000 deals?

FTTMN said: Taking price and performance into consideration...is this better or worse than the current D5000 deals?

It is a different class of camera. The D90 is a semi-pro level camera with solid construction with autofocus built into the camera. The 5000 is an entry-level camera that has been scaled back ... for example, the autofocus motor is on the lens. No big deal if you only plan to use the kit lens, but limiting in that if you want autofocus, you must buy the lenses specifically made for the entry-level cameras and thus cannot use many "old" Nikon mount lenses.

I bought one this afternoon and they called me an hour later to confirm the order. Maybe that's why rukkie's order was cancelled.

EDIT: Sorry for the triplicate post. Ugh. Can't find a delete option. Alerting Mods.

Is WalMart sill on the CashBack list? I don't see it anymore today.

I can't either, but then there with the CA state tax it kinda blows the deal for me so I ended up not buying.

I found that you can go to Bing and search for "Nikon D90" and find Adorama selling a refurb D90 with 90 day warranty for $769 with 10% CashBack thou. No tax, and they're doing free shipping right now so it totals to $692.95 after Cash Back. From what the reviews on Adorama is saying the refurb D90 units are pretty much brand new except the warranty is shorter. Good deal if you ask me. =) I'd go for it if I don't already have a D700 and D300 for work, and I think I'll hold out until they release the next DX format successor for D90 or D300 or grab a 2nd D700 when the time comes. Good luck all!

WalMart now has this camera on sale for $819 and Bing Cash Back for 20% which makes it $655 + your local tax. Not a bad deal.

That has got to be the cheapest easy-return (if necessary) d90 body sale price to date. Most online sales are sketchy at best or refurbs for anywhere near that price...

Sold out online

Still mad that 20% was not on around black Friday!!! I purchased thinking it would be the highest around then...Why boost it up now? Sigh...I lost 50 Bucks by buying it on black Friday....

I guess that is what happens in the world of deals...You win some...You lose some...Today I lost!

I ordered Monday (and got the confirmation phone call Tuesday), and they still haven't shipped it. Anyone had a similar slow shipping experience?
