HDMI?

don't think it has it according to Fry's spec, the A5000 at Circuit City does have it

In-store only.

Hmmm.. I was looking for a 14" but ended up getting the A5000 when it was on sale at OD. This looks like a pretty good deal, no hdmi will be a deal killer for some folks. Don't let the Celeron name scare you off, it's built on the same core as more expensive C2D's with part of the cache and Speedstep disabled. Mine has been running at 2.7Ghz with little effect on batt life or temps for a week or 2 now.

Couple of things to be aware of:
-Photos on Fry's are NOT an a4000 which doesn't have a number pad. They must be photos of an A5000 or A6000.
-Fry's shows 1 year warranty, but MSI is curently offering a 3 year warranty on their branded notebooks.
-Don't know if the memory spec on Fry's is correct, I would think they would put DDR2 800 in it.

Circuit City????? Good Guys CompUSA.... Are any of them still around?

Where have you been? Tiger Direct bought and are operating under those names.

I bought one of these couple weeks ago when it was on sale for $339.99. It's a good computer. No HDMI, but it's pretty fast, good form factor. The one complaint I have is the keyboard is not that great. The buttons just feel shallow, not sure how else to explain it.

Question: I bought the Toshiba Satellite L505-S5984 on Black Friday for about $400 after BCB. How would that laptop compare to the overclocked A5000? Also, how much is the lifespan of a laptop shortened when it is OC'ed?

I am interested in a graphics card that can play 1080p content well and is somewhat futureproof.

The MSI definitely has a better graphics card but the Toshiba supports up to DDR3 RAM.

As far as raw processing power, the A5000 overclocked would be faster than the Toshiba and the Toshiba would be somewhat faster than the stock A5000 or A4000. In day to day use, I doubt you would see much difference between them. I'll have some video encoding and Photoshop work that should be quicker OC'd, but I haven't installed the apps yet.

I suppose OC can shorten lifespan, but my temps are only about 5C higher and this laptop is cooler running with a 50% OC than my old HP or my wife's Dell so I'm not too worried. Plus it's got a 3 year warranty.

Haven't tried 1080P yet, but both 8200 and 4500HD should be fine for HD playback. 8200 should be a bit better for gaming, but neither is good enough if you're serious about your games.

If you're happy with the Toshiba, no sense in going though hassle of returning anding something buying something else.

Thanks for responding, StvB. I haven't used the Toshiba yet so I'm not sure which one I'd be happier with (it's still new in the box). But the Toshiba has only a 4500M not the 4500MHD, which is much better for decoding 1080p. The 4500M can only decode 720p.

ah, that does make a difference. The specs in your link said 4500MHD.
