Here's how you get the discount, if you're eligible:
1. Do a little research first on competitors in your area, especially cable Internet, so you can be fore-armed with knowledge. 2. Call 1-800-288-2020. This is AT&T's customer service phone number. 3. The automated system will try to detect your phone number. If you're calling from the phone line that has DSL and it detects it properly, fine. If not, enter in the DSL phone number. 4. The automated system will ask you what you want. Say "CANCEL". It will take a minute, then it will ask you what you want to cancel, phone service, internet, or whatever. Say "INTERNET". 5. The system will try to connect you to a retentions agent. This might take a while. They are not open 24 hours a day. If you're calling when they are closed, you should get a recorded message telling you the hours. 6. Tell the agent you were going over your bills, looking for a way to reduce them. Some reps would not acknowledge/offer the deal until the caller mentioned seeing an offer from their cable company. Quote : A. To be eligible, from what I get from the CSR, you need to have either ATT home phone (landline) service, or ATT wireless. With either the home or wireless service, the elite is $35 a month, and with the extra %50 off, you get it down to the $17.xx / month. I don't have the ATT phone services, so I'm not eligible If you're a new customer, you might have to sign for a regular plan, than call back the next day and speak to retentions. if you get shot down, just keep trying.

ok, that was easier than I thought. $17.95 monthly for 6MB line! whooohooo! Only 6 months tho so I guess I'll be calling back in June! BTW, if you ask for a longer term, they actually will offer you $10 off which is the $25/month plan for 1 yr as mentioned above.
I'm a new customer. Called ATT for ordering, got the standard website deal for local and dsl with free modem or gateway. Chat with a rep, they can offer you an additional $75 Cash Back after 6 weeks.

Do they do naked DSL lines? $94/month for U-verse is just ridiculous.

vwracer06 said: just got the deal for $18 for elite...anyone know how long it takes to implement? I just ordered it about an hour ago. With AT&T, it'll take at least 2 to 3 business days to either activate a new service or to disconnect an existing service. They're so proud to claim that it used to take them 5 to 7 business days. If their system is not so archaic, it should be almost instantaneous if you already have a landline service with them. I think they still pass around papers that require stamping for their provisioning.
i got upgraded to Elite, but my speeds never reached elite, i only get about 2.5Mbps. i called back and they told me that im not capable of getting elite speeds. Guy said things would crash if they increased speeds to elite. He then said that nobody around me has elite. So, basically im not able to get it. Anyone hear of this before?

Yes - it is a function of your physical distance from the switch. Learn more at DSLreports.com, where there is a test for your physical location.
Ive completed this deal before and my 6 months at 17.50 ends this month. Do you guys think they would allow me to get that promo again if I mention their competitors promotions and cheaper rates?

if they upgrade you to elite, don't they guarantee that speed, otherwise they shouldn't have switched you over? for the longest time, i have been told that i can't get elite. checked online and same thing. but tried again today and noticed online it said i can get elite, so i will try this out.
So they claim I can get elite, so let's hope so. I was able to get $25 for 12 months, but $10 off the phone line a month for 24 months! So effectivly $15 for 12 months and $25 for the next 12 months, though he says when the first 12 months is up call back and they may be able to reduce price!
how is their upstream? i'm pulling 220K/sec sustained forever on the comcast premium tier (+10 over the the normal comcast tier). it almost looks like it bursts a little faster for a short period of time. i'm talking actual not what they advertise.
downstream seems to be about 20-22 megabit but i could handle dropping to 6 megabit but if the upstream is not consistently decent that would suck.

ATT depending where you are will depend the speed you get, In all area's except original BellSouth ares the Elite package is 6000/608 but in original BellSouth area elite is 6000/786. In original BellSouth Area Elite non promo rate is $5 higher than all other ATT area's too.
When you get the new Elite speed, do you need to reboot the modem or it will kick in automatically? My new speed is scheduled to start today but I'm still running the old speed.
qUAan said: FYI The speeds suck Comcast may not be the best company when it comes to customer service but i get 24mbps speeds for $23.99 for 1YR In Illinois
I'm in IL and the best Comcast will do for me is $53/month if i had cable, which i don't. I've had dry loop 6 meg service for > 1 year now with no problems for $34.00 a month
that's the thing about dsl, too many factors that affect speed. For me, the best way to test speed is a max download with usenet. With comcast i get 750kb/s (6mb/s), with this dsl, i am getting 360 kb/s (3.5Mb/s)
LongDongSilver said: I just got switched about an hour ago. What's your actual Elite speed? Mine is around 5Mb down/640k up.
I have a full 6Meg connection (6128 I believe), but with overhead, I get closer to around 5 sustained. speadtests say I have around 4, but they only do short bursts, so it's not sustained.
When I called to cancel, I think was transferred to their retention department, the main number CSR say I am a U verse account holder except I don't have anything U verse service (only have home phone and DSL)
When the CSR asked why I wanted to cancel, I simply stated Comcasts offer of 20 for 12mb, she offered me a free speed upgrade and didn't mention the monthly price until I brought it up. I told them price is still too high given comcast offer.
She has what I would take for me to stay with them. I basically told them Elite plan with 50% off (17.50). She claims that she need to get this approved by her manager (which I think it total bs). Pricing will be good for 6 months.

I pay $34 a month for my Elite (no clue why it's not $35, I don't have it bundled with anything), and all they would do was $6/off a month for a year. I'll try again.
I am an ATT wireless customer but no land line. I am trying to get a deal similar to this one but having little luck. Two calls yielded two different results. First CSR told me that the south (Mississippi) does not have Elite, they call it "Extreme." She also told me she could not make any offer reasonably lower even though Comcast is offering $20/month. The second CSR told me that Elite is $35/mo and that while they occasionally do 50% off of that for 6mo she could not/would not. They both also told me that to get any deal like this I would have to have a LAND line, that my wireless does not apply...
Does it matter that I am not a current DSL customer? Should I just keep calling? I am telling the machine CANCEL so I think I am getting retention (via my wireless account). I really want this deal but am having very little luck.
OMG! It just worked and infact she gave me a $35 credit since I had already paid my this months bill. To all those planning on calling, you dont have to say much, just say that you were looking at your bills and were looking at reducing them, chat a little bit about economy and tell her you looked at comcast offers and they are offering 20Mbps for 18 bucks. Then let her talk. She will give you 18 for 6 months or $10 for 12 months. Take your pick. Thnaks OPS for the posting!!
