what do you guys think?

I am not sure what is in the car kit. For the phone by itself there have been better prices recently (by at least $50 from Dell). I have the phone and it is OK, does pretty much everything I need, but I don't pay the $15/mo for driving directions.

crust, the Dell deal you are talking about is for the regular nokia 5800 not the navigation edition model . Dell currently does have the navigation edition listed at $239 but that is after $50 mail in rebate , the car kit includes a geniune nokia windshield mount and other goodies in the package which are normally extra to purchase through nokia for navigation . not to mention the lifetime license for north for maps with upgrades and full voice navigation built in to this one.

$50 rebate on this phone from nokia ... get the rebate form from amazon here. note that the rebate form doesn't seem to specify specific stores for the qualified purchase.

I jumped on this phone when it was $200AR from Amazon. The car kit consists of a suction window mount and a car charger. All-in-all not a bad deal compared to the original phone as you get a lifetime navigation subscription as well (but you do miss out on perks such as the TV-out cable). This also still comes with the headphone remote and a set of headphones.

yeah , the lifetime maps , the navigation software and the car kits make this navigation edition phone so much more worthwhile at this price. not to mention the chrome bezel around the front makes look sexier then the old 5800.

Frys was advertising some unlocked Nokia phone for like $199 today but don't have the paper in front of me at the moment.

EDIT: NVM. Was the 5530.Linky

yeah 5530 at that price, not such a great deal.

Btw, windshield mount is illegal in California (and possibly some other states as well), tho people still do it all the time.

in those states you can miunt it to your dash with tge help of a round mounting plate . That makes it perfectly legal.

Will the gps work overseas? It'd be nice to be able to use it while travelling....

"Navigation" part does not work on my 5800. Funny it is called "navigation edition". I see others have the same issue. Nokia discussions link. I guess this was a rush to the market for holiday season. The manual, the box, even on the phone itself says "XpressMusic". There is a second box on top of original one that says "navigation edition". I heard that nokia support is very bad also, but I'm gonna try them this weekend.

I am not sure what you are talking about as my navigation has worked perfectly since day one, My box clearly states that it is the navigation edition , that thread is for people that are trying to tweek there network settings , and some people that bought the regular 5800 trying to get it to navigate for them .

below are the pics of my phone with the box , and no there is no other box inside it.

$240 after $50MIR @ Dell

I bit on the WalMart Nav edition for under $200 after BCB and $50 rebate.
Before I broke the seal on the box, I noticed it said 850/1900 WCDMA on the outer sleeve. (and ONLY on the outer sleeve)
The Nokia site indicates 900/2100 WCMDA, with 850/1900 for "Latin America and Brazil variant only."
Apparently, USA is part of Latin America.
I called Nokia support and they said it was 900/2100, even though I had the box in my hand indicating otherwise.
When I questioned her response, she said I was "speaking to Nokia US sales, not some third party."
I'm waiting on WalMart to respond.
I highly doubt this thing will do all 4 UMTS: 850/900/1900/2100
I'm pretty sure the box is correct and Nokia not.
Too bad. I was hoping this would be a good phone for Japan, but I guess it's going back.

Question, The rebate form requires you to activate an account on ovi store. When i went to register, it does not show the navigation edition only the regular 5800. Or am i doing something wrong. Someone tell me how you activated online. I need to know asap. Thx law

The WalMart.com site explicitly states "WCDMA 850/1900 MHz". That would be the 3G frequencies for AT&T, I believe (frequency list here). T-Mobile customers would be out of luck, since they'd need 1700/2100 -- though they should still be able to use EDGE.

I trusted Nokia to be more accurate than WalMart, for obvious reasons.
I guess we need a "peopleofnokia.com" site now.

There are several variants of this phone for various markets. The one WalMart is selling is the one they say they are - with AT&T's 3G frequencies. It's Nokia's model number 002N6Q3. For T-Mobile 3G you would need to buy a European model.

Nokia's only phone with USA T-Mobile's 3G is the N900.

You are right - looks like T-Mobile USA ended up with a unique UMTS 2100/1700 combination not found anywhere else.
