I got this little insert in my Verizon bill today. Unfortunately I'm a current customer but I may call up later and see if I can negotiate something later.
It was an amazing offer that made me jealous of the new customers.

You can get Verizon phone, FiOS internet (15/5), and FiosTV (Essentials) for only $69.99/month for months 1-6 and then it's only $79.99 for months 7-12. After that the price is 109.99 for months 13-24.

I'm from Portland by the way. I'm not sure if this promo is good for other areas. I took a picture of the flyer and will upload it.

I wish!

Current Verizon customer but I will soon be going back to Comcast, just to get Verizon to pay attention to me. These guys don't wish to acknowledge that they are playing a zero-sum game. They offer a commodity service, their customers don't care who the provider is, just what the price is. Reminds me of the MCI/AT&T insanity from the early 90s, where they would send you a check if you switch, and you could do it a couple of times a year.

2yr commitment... Also, when adding receivers and taxes, it easily adds another $30-$35 more per month...

i know! i did that a few times, too. even cashed a $100 check from att once. only in america! as close as 10 years ago, in vietnam, you had to pay through the nose just to hook up a phone, and forget about international ld (don't know how it is now).

Verizon's online offer for the past month or so for the same package (after discounts) has been $64.99 for 6 months, $94.99 for the next 6 months, 1 year contract. Works out to $60 less with this 2 year contract offer than the 1 year contract with the online offer. This is assuming you get the same offers on free Home Media DVR for 3 months, free HD box for 6 months, etc. like you do online.

I thought FIOS was only available in Beaverton and Gresham around here?

Price doesn't inc. DVR/HD box monthly fee. Add the HD pack, Sports Pack and cheapy movie pack (non HBO )and your at $170 a month after taxes for year two. I know, I'm there and ready to switch.

I've got FiOS Internet & TV right now, the internet definitely rocks, but Verizon's customer service is so poor that I'm thinking of going back to Comcast. They promise certain prices, then when the bill arrives, you're surprised to see all these other charges. In just the past year, they've added bonus channels on my account AND charged me for them even though I never ordered them! When asked who approved the channels, they said it originated from their internal office but with no backing remote or verbal authorization! The only thing I got was sorry, and just a refund of those charges -- which didn't appear until NEXT billing cycle. I've spent hours on the phone with Verizon customer service, usually wasting 15 minutes just going through different departments to get to FiOS customer care -- their automated systems, as well as they're reps use caller id and ask you for a "phone number" to route you to your local FiOS. I'm usually calling from my cell phone, which seems to register to NY, and not where my home is. First thing they really need to do is start thinking of FiOS without an attached phone number!

i put my folks on F*. They had 3 Home Media DVRs in less than 4 months. 1st would restart every so often. 2nd wouldn't even boot. 3rd (which was supposed to be a new box) was filled in a day - was not wiped and full of previous customer's crap. Then the HD receiver only could not attach to the primary to watch other recorded stuff - 2 hours on the phone to get that fixed...

Internet is good, but not much better than comcrap - at least those give you McAfee for free...

You can't win with any of them. Customer service is crap on all of them - F* C* E* D*

Any opinions on the best way to sign up for FIOS so they don't screw up? I'll be using a TiVo with a cable card and don't want any of their boxes. Verizon is notorious for screwing up anything that is slightly non standard and their online system won't even let me order it this way. I dread trying to explain anything to the customer service morons. I'm thinking of doing a standard order with a set top box and then returning the box and getting the cable card after it has been installed successfully.

Having a landline a a pre-requisite to getting FIOS has bugged me too, but I was browsing yesterday and see they now have a cable/internet bundle without the phone.

Verizon Bundles

Hi,
I currently have Dish Nwk for TV and Cox for my broadband + Verizon for LAN line. Recently I saw Verizon starts pulling fiber on my yard and I think very soon they will offer us something similar like this.
My question is what can i do with my Dish if i want to switch over to FIOS TV?. I know there is no problem of dropping COX and p/u Verizon broadband but i am concerning about the two satellite dish on my roof. Any input?
Thanks.

My first job when I was 15 back in '96 was for a company called APAC (all people are customers) lol, we sold AT&T long distance at the incredible rate of $.25 per minute, after being declined, I was able to offer checks for $50, $75, and then $100. I would often tell people to make the switch, then cancel to keep the free money. Most of the time I would offer all the perks up front, $100, 100 free minutes per month, and the 25 cents per minute past 100. I got $2.50 for making the sale past the 3rd party verifier. At 15 years old working 25 hours a week, I'd bring in $300 - $400 some weeks.

EDIT: the only internet Verizon has here in 29 Palms, CA is the terribly slow DSL, no go for me Stuck overpaying time warner.

Sadly, FiOS will not be around in my area for another 2-3 years at least.

Not sure where you have heard this, but it is entirely untrue. Ive had Fios Internet and TV for almost 4 years, and Ive never had a land line through them.

how much does verizon charge for taxes for this package?

My taxes and fees total ~$15 a month in NJ. Triple play with 1 HD DVR and one HD STB.

I had Fios triple-play at $79.99 a few months ago and it also came with one top box free for six months and one HD box free for three months (may record TV show for 80 hours.) But every month I received a bill that charged me more than $130 and the first month even worse $179. Finally I called the customer service and got an answer from a rude and self-centered male rep who insisted the statements were correct: "There's nothing wrong with your statement. It's some rep gave you improper discount." I canceled Fios immediately and switched back to Comcast triple-service for $89.99 a month (no contract), and I got a free HD box (don't need to return), a free wireless router, two modens for $5/month, 12 free movies on demand, $100 CashBack, 30/5 Mbs internet service, HBO and Starz movie channels free forever, and best of all Comcast pays the early termination fee for me (with Verizon.) Now my bill is almost fixed at $101 a month (tax included). I don't care Fios is better or Comcast is better, but I know one thing that I can now enjoy my service with peace of mind, no more hassles of the incorrect bills.

service = verizon fios wins
customer serivce = comcast wins usually and much cheaper in the long run

it all depends what you want

I have internet/phone with verizon $64.99 package, fees and taxes add another 20%.

websquirrel said: My taxes and fees total ~$15 a month in NJ. Triple play with 1 HD DVR and one HD STB.

Taxes and fees for FIOS services and for some other company communication and Cable-TV services will vary by municipality.

FIOS "Cable-TV" service may includes municipal franchise fee. FIOS voice phone is "POTS" and subject to federal USF. Sales taxes on equipment and services may apply depending on state and local tax rules. Then, of course, there are those "nasty fees" that utilities use for "cost recovery" instead of including them in the prices quoted.

"VOIP" is not currently subject to USF. "Cable-TV" is "franchised" locally and the locality may charge certain fees. Internet is probably most fee free currently although some places may try to tax it and somebody will probably push for a USF, but for now it becoming a good way to watch TV programming and make phone calls.

Sorry if OT, but hopefully we'll see internet network neutrality enforced and high speed broadband available to all.

Just spent another hour on the phone with Verizon FIOS rep. Internet and cable works well, but they try to screw you non-stop putting some extra fees on the bill. Every time. Today it was "Internet Activation fee @ 49.99 Payment 1 of 3". I guess next month I'll have to call again.
I am sick of it. Do you really want FIOS? Think twice...

I have Verizon FIOS for about a year and I can say that the Internet speed is very fast. FIOS Internet live up to its name, it's really fast and is high-tech. However, Verizon Customer Service is still in the stone ages. I have called them many times and every time it's slow and painful. The wait for CSR is long and several times I have been disconnected while being put on hold. Like someone here has mentioned, the advertised price is to sucker you in and then they slap on additional costs on your bill. They like to add extra fees on the bill in one way or another, with different names for it, and then there's taxes. We definitely need more competition in this ultra high-speed internet business to put these guys in check.

I had the same problem last 4 months. My monthly bill has been charged by some third party scam company. Verizon said they are only provide the billing service. I had to deal with the scammer on the phone over hours and they promise to credit my account. Then next month, another vendor did the same and bill my for some service I never signed up. I finally got Verizon to put a blocker on my account for 3rd party billing. Guess what? This month bill I got charged for $11 for the "crammed blocker". I had to call CS again to get the charge removed. Thank God the CS notify me that my contract is up this month and my bill increase $10/month due to Internet is now 25/15 speed. I am going back to comcast to shop around to see what deals I can get. It's not worth the headache to deal with Verizon on a monthly basis.

Still waiting for fiber to come to hood.

Tried this Verizon crap...bill would change EVERY month and average out to a ridclious $130. Had to call EVERY month, wasting hours to get run around, never again will I deal with Verizon unless FREE! Back to brighhouse (more HD, internet as fast) and FIX $101 bill. Verizon is going down the tubes fast with HORRIBLE customer service and ripping people off via incorrect bills.

anyone actually tried and order through the verizon.com/lowprice link? After inputting my address and said FiOS is available, it gives me the current promos at $109.99 a year. Nowhere does it offer the $69.99.

verizon cs is the worst in the u.s
trust me.

man, you guys should all be using VOIP for your phone service. No. Taxes.

That's exactly what happened to me. I think OP may still be in a "head to head" competition area w/ Comcast/Cox, etc... Those areas are still heavily discounted until Verizon actually infiltrates the market and then the prices go up. If it's new, they usually go low to attract a bunch of folks and switcherooney pretty quickly.

Verizon answering system scared me the most.

WorkerAnt said: Verizon answering system scared me the most.

Don't worry too much about that, they may not answer in a reasonable time with anything but a robotic menu, and if they answer, as someone said previously, you may get disconnected

At least an unregulated oligopoly is better than an unregulated monopoly. Hopefully, sometime, all will have reasonably priced broadband access wired/wireless, and equipment and content providers will compete.

Theres more then one portland BTW

Again apologies if OT -- Hopefully, we'll see the commitment to national broadband come to pass, that our legislative bodies will be supportive rather than interfering with such, as our developed nation should not rank as low as many studies report in access to high-speed broadband/wireless "communications". Universal access to voice telephony was of the 20th century. The 21st century demands of a developed nation, universal access, for its people, to fixed location and mobile high-speed/high-reliability 'internet' access for text/e-mail, 'traditional' internet browser, voice (e.g. "telephone") video (e.g. "TV"), etc. -- i.e. content of all varieties.

Some high crime areas of Buffalo have free wi-fi provided by the security cameras. But, I doubt that many people in those areas of the city even have a computer. Majority of them do have (may not necessarily own, but have) Lexus or Caddilac vehicles with rims that exceed semi-truck tire size.

So, providing broadband in those areas will probably not change much. When the priority is to have 24inch gold plated rims on a pearl white Escalade superceed the kids needs for books and educational materials, providing high speed internet won't do any good if there "ain't a computer within miles"

Let's not "hijack" this topic to make it one of social issues; that's an important topic that probably should be elsewhere. But, must say often heard reasons why internet use is impossible including the one you cite; it doesn't say much for our nation. Too easy to say what we can't do. But let's expect that we can change things and provide access which may include computing devices and education as well as the "pipe". Think of schools and libraries and the inexpensive devices used in so-called "less-developed" other countries. In the 20th century our country committed to universal access in the nation to "POTS" and the equivalent now is broadband internet. Time for change. Time for "change much"

I wish FIOS is available either in Grand Prairie, TX or Cedar Hill, TX....I am tired of ATT U-Verse and TW CABLE...

Based on all the posting, it should be obvious that Verizon is taking advantage of their better technology and squeezing the customer every way they can. There are so much similarities between all the complaints it is blatantly obvious that this is their M.O. Here is another post confirming that FIOS is great, but Verizon customer service is intentionally bad. They have (in no particular order) promised everything they can and delivered none, over charged and reneged on the credit by spreading them out over time and they magically disappear for the next billing cycle, make you waste your time on the phone only to make you start all over after holding for upwards to over an hour. There are lots of disconnects between the CS centers, the field service reps, billing reps, and internet reps so you consistently get inconsistent policies and their enforcement. They even billed me for a router that they sent out to replaced the old one which was working just fine. Oh, and the TV schedule changes constantly and I never know which channel is which or if it is even included in my subscription anymore. Yes, do not try to customize, they do not know how to handle anything but the standard packages and they always error on the side of over-billing you counting on the fact that you will not likely to call based on your bad experiences. There ought to be an enterprising class action lawyer somewhere keeping tabs and planning on a suit because a pattern can definitely be established that Verizon is defrauding their customers.
