So there's openings for President's Day / Valentine's but not for MLK (except for Sunday night)
Looks like the estimate in the Deal Analyzer for the SF hotel is $31. Yes indeed, in the SF area, a visiting coworker had to pay $25 for self-parking in a HUGE lot in the burbs!
Make sure to read the reviews before booking. We are currently researching our first trip to SF in April. From the reviews, unless you are comfortable staying in a closet sized room, personally I'd stear clear of the King George.
good point. Yes a lot of hotel rooms in the Union Square area are smaller in general...sort of like the ones in NYC. Must be something to do with the urbanness of it all? I stayed in a W in NYC on a deal once ...those were the tiniest W rooms I'd ever seen...

$20 a night? That's a GENEROUS estimate for San Francisco. I've paid $40. For a parking spot!
I've paid $35 for a spot for the day before as well.
Just for reference, the Marriott at Union Square charges $31/day for off-site parking, $52 for valet, and $64 for oversize vehicles. The last time I stayed in the city was three months ago at the Courtyard between Market and AT&T park on 2nd Street. Valet parking at that hotel is currently $49/night.

I can't speak for NYC, but the SF rooms are small because they're so old. They're literally Victorian, they don't just look it. And that's just the way stuff was.
We just finished a 3 night stay at King George. It's a quaint little hotel very well situated in Union Square with access to several areas in San Francisco. There is a parking garage right opposite the hotel that charges $30 for a 24-hour period, but you can get in-out privileges through the hotel. They have a nightly rate of $15 - if you enter after 5:30pm and exit before 9:00am. We found parking right outside the hotel (on the street) that has free parking overnight (watch for street cleaning dates). O'Farell parking garage is two blocks away and is cheaper ($6 flat-rate overnight).
The hotel itself is small - but perfect if you'll be spending all your time outdoors. We walked down to Union Square and took the late-night cable car all the way to Ghiradelli Square (and back). Great place to come back to hit the bed.
Hah, yeah, I was wondering if anyone was going to bring up Tenderloin. I have stayed in the Hotel California down the street, but yeah, you do NOT want to be walking that area at night. Effing scary. You think that picture looks bad? That's during the daytime.
Your post may mislead people, though accurate (it IS a large liberal metropolitan). The hilton, right next to your screen-shot charges $250+ a night. Union Square has an active night life, I haven't been afraid to roam around there.
I've stayed at the King George before.. the rooms are VERY small even by European standards. Bring a spouse, not a friend, nor kids or you just won't have room. It was clean, quaint, and enjoyable though, and at this rate is an incredible deal since it includes parking.
I hope a Jet fan or two can take advantage of this deal this weekend in SD.

I was at the King George last week for a similar deal. the location is awesome. Tenderloin is a little sketchy but never once felt unsafe even late at night. Is perfect location if you are not planning on driving. a block away from the market st cable cars and a 3 min walk to the Powell Bart. Also busses everywhere. I love san fran from the public trans...
Tempted to maybe go back sometime in the spring.

This is not working for me. Won't accept my credit cards. Anyone else have this problem?

The sad thing was that it only took me about 1-2 mins to find that scene using street view I started off at St George and made my way up the street.
