never mind...

Thanks, OP. Just happened to be looking for an external drive for the IDE HDD from my old lappy. For an extra $1.50 (tax in CA), and the possibility of a whole $0.24 FatCash, I decided to take the safe route and avoid the HK seller.

Any similar deals for 3.5 inch enclosures?

I just bought one... The aluminum is very thin and bends easily so the case doesn't seem to stay close, but otherwise it works fine.

Damn you! OK, just kidding, green and got one.

By any chance, can enclosure damage HD?

The really cheap and poorly constructed ones with bad connectors can. In most cases they won't damage your HDD. However, a bad enclosure can cause your HDD to overheat due to lack of cooling means.

I own this enclosure. At least it seems like the exact one on Meritline. Metal is thin (mentioned above), the thing is sort of a pain to open up the first time, but it works fine. I haven't had a problem with it yet, been using it for probably over 6 months now. If you're holding important data, you might want to opt out for a better enclosure. I had a spare 2.5" HDD around so I bought this. It only holds movies and worthless stuff.

Thanks OP! I used Google Checkout, so I hope my FatCash still works. BCB is 6%, but I imagine you can't use the code with it.

My drive arrived and somehow I ordered the IDE version instead of the SATA. >_< And now the sale has ended and the RMA process isn't so hot.

Time for craigslist!

Shop4tech deal on again: http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/hot-deals/988026/

I bought an inexpensive HD case and the second time I used it, it shorted and burned out my HD!!
