Well thanks to every one in this forum i was able to activate my lg vx 5500 phone and i appreciate everyones help. I am now having a problem that maybe someone can make simple for me. I am reading about how to change my wap settings so i can get my email working and vx navigator and it is a little beyond me. First of all, i cannot figure out which cable to buy to do this and also using this bitpim program seems a little difficult for a first time user. Is there someone that does this for a small charge or can some one point me in the direction of the right cable to use to connect my cellphone to my non-bluetooth computer and get this done. In other words is there an easier way to do this? thank you

I have a question I was hoping someone knew the answer to:
I had about $10 on my pay as you go plan and then added the 29.95 monthly plan. After I added my monthly plan, my pay as you go amount was zeroed out. Does that mean I lost it, or will I get it back after my monthly plan expires?

Thanks.
How long has it been since you added it? Check back in a little bit and the amount should be back. I had that happen too.

Yes. $10 airtime included.
Edit to add that this applies to the LG VX5500 ($22.88 at WalMart) that I bought. I'd guess it's true for other prepaid Verizon phones as well.did you activated your lG VX5500 thru. verizon network ? I have to return lG VX5500 to WalMart since thay can not be activated by PP. Thanks

You need to call PPC CS to activate VZW prepaid phones. Just don't tell them. Don't ask. Don't tell.

No. I activated mine through Mingo Wireless. I'm monitoring this thread trying to decide if it's worth switching to PP to save a few bucks, but giving up the great customer service at Mingo.
Hmm..the Std & Unlimited TnT plans are $0.29/min for calls while roaming, but the per-minute roaming rate for the 1200 TnT plan is still listed as $0.59. Is this just an oversight on their website? I hope so!
EDIT: What a difference a half hour can make. The 1200 TnT plan page is now updated to $0.29/min roaming rate

Why are you telling people to call?
So it can be activated. No other reason.
It is a lot easier to activate online through various online dealers. Members can even activate for free through a thread on HoFo (if you've had a certain number os posts).
I presume that if you use PPC to talk to people who are using Verizon as their cell carrier it will draw down their daytime minutes? Can someone confirm? Thanks!

To a verizon customer, they will use minutes to talk to you (unless you are on their list of numbers whom they can call unlimited).

you need to search for a DATA usb cable. some cable will only charge and not have the hardware capability for data.
i just set up my parent's vx5500 and took me a while to connect using both methods (usb cable/bt) since bitpim can be a little tricky to detect the right com port and the phone.
lmk if you need more help on it.

PaperbagI'd rather leave the bring your own phone said: discussion to the other forums and/or this forum over at howardforums.Except that the phone selection is so limited that it's an issue, even with the rates. A little discussion of how or where to find better phones, beyond a link to a HoFo sub-subforum, might help. (Not everyone has a recent Verizon phone.)

Afaik 2 recently new developements. 1 Online activation of new VZW PP phones now fails. 2 PPC dealers will no longer activate new VZW PP phones. As of now "don't ask don't tell" with a PPC CSR still works.
Activated 2 vx5500pp phones yesterday by phone. No problems. Tried the online first and failed. The hardest thing is getting ahold of page plus. They didn't ask, and I didn't tell. Thanks for all the info everybody.

Activated a Sprint Blackberry Curve Flashed to PagePlus yesterday as well. Just told them needed to activate new phone

I read on Howard Forum that it is nearly impossible to use Sprint phones on PP. Is this for voice only or were you able to run data as well? I have a Verizon BB 8830 that I want to convert to PP but I'm afraid to try.

When you buy a PagePlus minutes card, do the minutes convert back to $ and go into your account??? The minutes get cheaper when you buy higher amounts (bulk) so I'm confused as to how that works.

It's first in first out. Say you put in $10 pin then $25 pin, your account will show $35. PPC will use 10 cents/min for the first 100 minutes then 6 cents/min for the rest.

I got a Sprint PPC 6700 (Verizon XV6700) flashed to Verizon and activated some months ago. As I've said before in this thread, I wouldn't recommend it. It's not as simple as flashing the ROM. You have to update other files which requires some more hacking as well as the unlocking code for the phone (depending on the phone you can hack that also). I spent about 10 hours on it as a phone newbie. Not recommended for the faint of heart.
And then the d-pad broke 2 months later. Not recommended unless you are very brave or have lots of time. Stick to VZ phones.
Ehero said: "There is also a monthly service fee of $0.50 that is deducted from your account on the 25th of every month." Is that right for the pre-paid cards?
They take off 50 cents on teh 25th if you are paying by the minute, if you are on a prepaid monthly plan then there is no 50 cent deduction.
I tethered an LG VX5500 to my laptop via microusb and bluetooth. It is slow (LG is not an EVDO device) and uses your data allowance. Only good for quick email check or in emergencies. Plz note that technically you can not activate new prepaid phones like the LG VX5500 anymore.. or BB.. or Treo.. or other smartphones caught up in their dragnet. Kind of a pain. Omnias should be ok to go still, until PP changes their mind again (a little frustrated with them now, myself).

Sorry for going off topic, but can anyone suggest an equivalent GSM-service provider?! I am aware of Net10 and tracfone but none of them seem to provide cheap unlimited options like that pageplus.

Last year I bought a Verizon pay-as-you-go phone and put it on Page Plus service. That is the great thing about Page Plus imo, you can use any Verizon phone on the service. I bought a full keyboard phone from WalMart and set it up on PP.
i dont suppose i could use my old hollywood from amp'd?
I doubt it. I think I was in a very small minority where my Hollywood still worked. Give it a try, but I doubt it will activate.
