I agree with Bobby, these new customer discounts do not attract me to Buy.com at all. Why should a repeat/loyal customer pay more? Also why not mention the various CashBack incentives like FatCash and Bing?
Placed an order with Buy after waiting for a month and a half I got an email basically stating oops sorry can not send your order, I replied that I was unhappy with the service so they emailed me that I was getting a $5 gift card (how big of them after having me wait that long not to get it anyway) and by the way I never did get the gift card I guess they just wanted to shut me up buyer beware don't order anything time sensitive or that you need like I did.
Hi Melissa - welcome to the FW community! I'm looking for a deal on one of two products:
Band Hero (Wii) Buy.com Sku: 211328325 or Rock Band 2: Special Edition (Wii) Buy.com Sku: 208456406
100 bucks shipped? Make me a buyer - thanks Melissa!!

I've always had good experiences purchasing from Buy.com. and have never had to deal with customer service. CS has a bit of a bad rep going back on the forums. I hope maybe that's changed.
Often when I look for an electronic or computer product, I find the best price on Buy.com, then I see "free shipping" and I'm yours. More FREE SHIPPING would be my recommendation to win over customers.
Little House on Prairie or Waltons Complete DVD Set $100 or less, Network/Netflix Blu-Ray player $100 & under, Any Live Action classic 1950/1960/1970's Buena Vista/Disney films $7.50 and under.
Unassociating yourself from the "passing along your credit info and personal info to business partner" $10 coupon program would show that you care about your customers. IMO any company that has to use that trickery must not have customer/business priorities straight. Getting rid of that end of order fiasco would improve your image among shoppers and make you seem more consumer friendly.

i've had mostly good experiences with Buy.com as well. However, after the web loyalty scam fiasco, i've marked them off my "approved vendors list".
I even requested all my info, including CC info, be removed from their DB, but never heard back.
So, good luck Melissa. Buy.com always seemed to have a great deal around the corner on something or the other, however you guys have a long way to go to re-establish trust with your customers.
EDIT: the more i think about it, I wish other companies adopted Newegg's (old) philosophy - always decent (not necessarily the cheapest, though) prices, shipped out pretty fast, and GREAT customer service - there was never a hassle returning an item or making it "right" with the customer. I can't tell you how much $$ I've spent there in the last 5 years or how many people I've recommended to shop there.
Denco- I couldn't agree more! I've spent well into six figure $$$ online in the past 5 years and 2/3rds of it has gone to Newegg. There are lower priced alternatives to nearly everything I've bought there, but I simply don't have the time when quoting items to spend hours sorting thru poorly designed websites. To add to your complaint, they rarely give a very detailed description/specification of the product listed and the pics are generally poor as well. I still buy from them but it has to be a killer deal with something I am already very familiar with. I believe my last order with them was for 24 Antec cases.
denco said: One of the reasons I don't use Buy.com is that they seemingly can't do a simple sort by price, low to high:
I would like to see a good (or great) price on a 21" to 24" monitor from a quality manufacturer with at least the following: * Contrast Ratio: 20,000:1 dynamic * Brightness: 300cd/m2 * Resolution: 1920 x 1080 * Response Time: 5ms * Aspect Ratio: 16:9 * Connectors: DVI-D with HDCP, HDMI, Analog [This is the Acer model# H213H bmid for $130]

Oops, I was waiting for Dell to drop the price from $319 and they just did. I'm buying this today, but I will watch Buy.com for upcoming deals.
Hey Elric428 Glad you said it, I was also ripped off by Connect3d rebate, and waited for Buy.com to step up It's been a long time, but I almost included it in my earlier post. Green for you.

My pleasure. Buy.con owes me $150 in Connect3D rebates since 2007. While other companies would have stepped up to the plate and payed these outstanding rebates, buy.con has shown just what kind of customer service you can expect from them.

I also lost $100 in Connect3D rebates, and the trust to them. After that, Never visit Buy.com
Elric428 said: Hey Melissa. Where's all the rebate money buy.con owes me and thousands of other FatWallet community members from the Connect3D Rebate Fiasco?
Only RED to any buy.con "hot deal" until i get my $50 back. THIEVES!
I had been a fairly reasonable fan of Buy.com and had spent thousands of dollars there between '99 and early 2007.
I have not purchased from Buy.com since the Connect3D rebate fiasco which started almost exactly 3 years ago.
After those 3 years, I figure they have lost way more in sales and profit than the $50 they should have refunded me. In that time, I have migrated to Newegg for most of my tech purchases... and while the deals there have grown fewer and farther between in the last year or so, I will have to give decent props to Newegg, as I have had a couple of problems - one or two of those City of Industry rebates that never came, as well as a DOA MOBO. In each of those cases, Newegg stepped up to the plate and took care of the customer... And thus they have continued to get plenty of repeat business from me. I'm certain some of those sales would have gone to buy, had they not turned their back on me and thus I on them.
A lot of the ire has subsided through the years, but I still have no love for Buy -- to go from numerous dozens, perhaps hundreds of orders over 8 years to completely cut off.... I'd have hoped they'd have learned their lesson... but still we get the run-around in court.
Hopefully we'll see the money back from them someday. I do wonder the entire net effect of the whole scenario to them... Surely, I'm not the only one to have abandoned them. I wonder if they've lost more than they gained by taking a hardline and failing the customer. It would be nice to remove all doubt and win in court and get our money back... then we'd know they lost between paying anyway, plus the lost sales through the years.
My condolences to those who got burned to the tune of $150 on up, due to the multiple Connect3D deals that went belly up. I do feel as though I got off kinda easy, relatively speaking.

Amazon, Newegg, & Frys! These are companys that step up to the plate when rebates go bad. Buy.con could learn alot from them. Buy.con has lost my business forever. I am sure I am not the only one. Way to go buy.con!

I'm also a victim of the Buy.com / connect3d scam. I'm hoping there will be a resolution in the class-action lawsuit that's been filed, but I'm fairly certain I won't get anything from it. By the time lawyers, court costs, and other fees are paid, there won't be anything left for victims like me (and possibly you). The customer service Buy.com exhibited after this fiasco was attrocious, and I haven't ordered from them since.
Buy.con's current resellerrating.com is 3.88/10, which is an improvement. It was hovering around 2.x/10. To contrast with a reputable business though, Newegg's current rating is 9.68/10.
The moral of the story - don't buy whatever snakeoil Buy.com is trying to sell you. Their reputation and customer service is horrible. There's plenty of competition out there, both in terms of price and customer service. Do yourself a favor and shop elsewhere.
denco said: One of the reasons I don't use Buy.com is that they seemingly can't do a simple sort by price, low to high: In the interest of keeping this as constructive criticism, I also think Buy.com has some issues with the shopping interface. Buy.com isn't alone in this, but the answer is simple: steal what the best competitor is doing. Amazon has, hands down, the best interface (although it used to confuse me that sorting by price would factor in their 3rd party used prices).
Also, I hope someone prepped Melissa for the fact that there are still people who are bitter about unpaid rebates. I've never had any issues with items ordered through Buy.com, though (I didn't get any of the Connect3D products).
Now for the shopping:
If Melissa can swing a deal on this video card, I'd appreciate it (SKU: 211243060). It would also help if they had a picture, since it's a low-profile card that has to squeeze into a slimline case.

There are a LOT of us out here who got burned by Buy.con's terrible customer service, especially the Connect 3D fiasco, but not just limited to that. Myself included. I spend tens of thousands of $$ a year on computer related equipment for my business, and influence the buying decisions of several other businesses. You can be sure that I steer business away from Buy.con.
The best advice in this thread: Do yourself a favor and shop elsewhere.

The last thing I purchased from Buy.com was a refurbished Logitech wireless desktop.
The item did not come with the owner's manual or a setup disc. The keyboard was full of dust. The mouse came with old batteries installed. When I called Buy.com they offered to refund the purchase if I would pay for return shipping. They apologized for the old batteries in the mouse. They told me that I could download the necessary drivers and the setup manual from the Logitech website. Miraculously, the keyboard and mouse work fine (it's been 6 months). I did learn a lesson, though. I will not buy anything from Buy.com again.
I'm just another former customer who learned from his mistakes.
As it probably has been mentioned, please include coupons for existing customers. I, in particular, would like to see a deal on hard drives.

I think you're right. This might get really embarrassing for Buy.com if they try to post deals like this everyday, and end up getting reamed instead. So, keep it up Buy.com!!! We look forward to savaging what's left of your reputation on a daily basis. If you (Buy.com) don't believe me, look how long we've held this grudge against you.
Your post also mentioned requests. Here's mine: 1. Pay the rebates due us. 2. More pics of Melissa - it's the only bright spot in this thread.

The best advice in this thread: Do yourself a favor and shop elsewhere. Amen to that! It wasn't like we were applying for a rebate that we found on another site. The rebate was posted by Buy.com and the AFTER REBATE PRICE was advertised prominently on Buy.com's product page. I'm glad FWers haven't forgotten how unscrupulous they are and I'm sure we'll remind everyone at every chance we get!
Yeah, even Office Depot has made good on failed rebates for items they sold. I feel certain that buydotcom will be forced to make good as well, just not in time to save any face, nor salvage any of their terrible reputation.
Thank you all for sharing your concerns. We've listened and decided it's best not to continue with this project. We appreciate the honest feedback you have all provided.
