I see Newegg give out these remote like cookies with motherboard, other boards available too!

Plus shipping on the mobo.

Is this a good deal? Can anyone hazard an estimate on what's the cheapest 1080p/Aeon compatible XBMC build with this would be?

for software encoding i found that a core 2 duo @ 2.4 to 2.8ghz (depending on fsb) is sufficient to render the video - audio is digital out no downmix since you have a decent home theatre.

if you have gpu acceleration you could knock that down a bit but i'd err on the side of having too much power. you could do a 1333fsb pentium dual core bump it up to 2.8ghz and be cool.

does that remote come with the IR receiver and ir blasters?

the remote look like it comes with everything!

No HDMI. Thumbs down for HTPC.

intel gma4500 video, which i believe does not have much, if any, gpu acceleration capability... and intel video drivers are notoriously buggy.

run, don't walk, away from this deal.

DVI out is good enough. No digital audio out though.

Thanks to OP for posting, and others, esp. rigor for their experiences.

What is the state of Linux/BSD drivers for this? Buggy? Quick? Source code?

Likewise, how good is the Linux/BSD support for the included remotes + receivers?

In a related question, anybody know of good inexpensive HTPC/mobos/graphics cards which will do component out?

Methinks you've not used HDMI. At least it doesn't have only VGA out...

spend $5 at Monoprice (plus shipping) and get an HDMI to DVI adapter - that's what he means.

DVI doesn't carry audio - that's what the other he means.
