Lenovo Thinkpad X200 for $776.90 also Order now for FREE SHIPPING
Lenovo is currently running a new sale similar to the BF one, i'm sure some people missed this deal. So heres another chance at it.

To get this deal, you would need to goto their Shareholder Purchase Program site.
1. www.lenovo.com/spp (TYPE the site into your browser if you get an error, hotlinking is not allowed apparently)
2. Create an account and verify your email, they will provide you a temporary password
3. Select Laptops
4. Click on links for the Thinkpad Savings Sale (Theres a banner that cycles through 3 advertisements)
5. Select the X200 Ultraportable Package - $849.15
6. Scroll down and remove X200 Ultrabase this should give you a new price of $679.15
7. Now you cannot checkout with the package being this low, I think the system will not allow it to go below a certain price. Therefore you will need to add upgrades here and there, I upgraded my order with the increased processor, increase ram, bluetooth. This brought my new total to $776.90.

Make sure your order is at least $743 or else it won't let you checkout. You can easily get it to this price point by upgrading processor, ram, etc.

Specs vary based on selection.
Intel Core 2 Duo processor P8600, 2,40GHz
12.1" WXGA, 2x2 UltraConnect II antenna w/ webcam
250GB Hard Disk Drive, 5400rpm
3GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM 1067MHz SODIMM Memory
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD
Intel WiMAX/WiFi Link 5150
TrackPoint with Fingerprint Reader
Integrated Bluetooth PAN
ThinkPad X200 Series 9-cell Li-Ion Battery
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

did a search, couldn't find the post here.

Credit goes to "jboogey".

With tax and shipping, the deal is cold!

They are gushing all over this on SD. I was thinking of a Macbook Air used on fleabay and the specs on this are much better. I made a move. Lenovo's are tanks.

The same deal is hotter at regular Lenovo.com (not using shareholder purchase program)

Go to Lenovo.com -> Products -> Laptops & netbooks -> Special Offers -> Thinkpad Savings Sale -> X200 Ultraportable Package $999

Remove the Ultrabase (unless you need it) to lower $200.

At this point, the deal is the same as the one OP's, except more expensive. But two things make it cheaper:

1) There is a coupon code USPDISPLAY to take 15% off, expires 2/1/10 1:59am according to fatwallet
There is no coupon that can be used on this deal at the spp site. There is a coupon that can be used on X-series, but not this deal.

2) Bing.com Cash Back for Lenovo is now 10% as of this moment (just search Lenovo or thinpad at bing.com).
You still can't check out when the total of your cart is too low. But just use the bing CashBack pick some upgrade options =)

I configured the below for $918.15 before tax and before Bing.com CashBack. Basically maxed out everything (except for harddisk, which I am going to swap for a SSD later on) + 2 years warranty.

Tax is about $50, shipping is free.

wow, thnx khtse. Will cxl my order and do it this way.

No CashBack email confirmation. Hope it works with the coupon. Anyone have experience with Lenovo, coupons and CashBack working or not? tthnx

any idea on weight and battery life?

9 hours, not quite 3.5 lbs.

According to Bing's terms, "you will not earn cаshback savings on purchases where...you use a separate discount or coupon with your order." Likewise, Bing's Lеnovo cаshback window contains the statement "You cannot use coupons or discounts."

If this is enforced, that likely explains why PhilMcCrack didn't receive a Bing cаshback confirmation e-mail.

I would approach this deal with the expectation of receiving only the 15% discount (and compare it to other deals accordingly). If the 10% cаshback also comes through, great, but I wouldn't count on it.

Quick price check going thru the Lenovo Page for US shows a $1213.00 price for the config below, close to OP's config. Looks like a good deal!! $776 vs. $1213

System components:
- Intel Core 2 Duo processor P8600 (2.40GHz, 3MB L2, 1066MHz FSB)
- Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64
- 12.1 WXGA, 2x2 UltraConnect II antenna; with Camera and Wireless Broadband Upgradeable
- 3 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM 1067MHz SODIMM Memory (2 DIMM)
- TrackPoint with Fingerprint Reader
- 250GB Hard Disk Drive, 5400rpm
- 5-1 Media Card Reader and Modem
- Integrated Bluetooth PAN
- Intel WiMAX/WiFi Link 5150 (AGN)
- Integrated Mobile Broadband - Upgradable
- ThinkPad X200 Series 9 cell Li-Ion Battery
- Country Pack North America with Line cord & 65W AC adapter
Services and software

Let's hope this is not enforced. Bing has this term on every site, for example Dell.com, but I was still able to get Bing CashBack with Dell everytime (there is not a single time that I purchased from Dell without using a coupon...).

I only used Bing to get CashBack for my purhcase at Lenovo.com once, that time the email didn't come until the thing was shipped.

edit: Just checked my old emails, Bing didn't send me email notifications for the CashBack until my Dell orders were shipped. I guess this is how things get done at these website.

anyone know if this machine could play blu-rays?
(provided you had the external blu-ray drive)

The GMA X4500MHD does support hardware decoding for Blu-Ray, how good it is is another thing, you may try Googling for some reviews.

The problems are, first, you don't need Blu-Ray on a 12" screen, DVD is already way good enough for screen of this size. Second, this laptop is equipped only with VGA output, and you need a digital output (DVI, HDMI, Display Port) that supports HDCP to output Blu-Ray content onto an external monitor/HDTV. If you get the Ultrabase for the X200, it does add Display Port support, and in principle could output Blu-Ray content to your external monitor (can't guarantee, no one has tested that).

But ultimately this is a very stupid idea. The Ultrabase costs $200, and the cheapest Blu-Ray drive on Newegg cost $100 (3.5", you need a SATA-to-USB adapter to make it work, and 2.5" Blu-Ray drive costs a fortune). You are much much better off getting a PS3 for Blu-Ray playback, or go for another laptop.

I was wondering mainly since I only buy blu-rays now, have a ps3 for the entertainment center

I'm gonna argue and say that isn't true. DVD resolution is ~720x480, whereas this LCD is 1440x900? You will definitely notice a difference in quality sitting a normal distance away (no more than 3-4 feet probably). Additionally, you can use VGA to display HD video (1920x1080). As for HDCP, I thought that it was only required for digital connections, but if that isn't true then you can always use a program like SlySoft's AnyDVD HD to remove HDCP.

I do agree that with current prices for external drives it isn't exactly a good blu ray solution, but who knows about the future pricing when you may want to use the laptop for that purpose.

No, this LCD is WXGA 1280x800, WXGA+ is not available on X200. Right, this resolution is still higher than DVD resolution but it doesn't mean it will matter. Stare at it hard enough you will see the different, but it's not something that one would care for such a small screen. You do realize the size of the screen is 12.1" right? Anyway, this doesn't really have a lot to do with this deal.

If you remove the ultrabase, you won't have dvd-rom on X200. How do you reformat the OS in the future?

winer48 said: If you remove the ultrabase, you won't have dvd-rom on X200. How do you reformat the OS in the future?

You can get an IDE/SATA-to-USB adapter to connect any DVD-ROM (or just get an USB DVD-Rom) to the X200. Alternatively, copy the OS to a flash drive, make the flash drive bootable, and then install from it. This is very easy to do, and you can easily find instructions on how to do this by some Google search.

Btw, the X200, and most ThinkPads, come with a hidden partition on the hard drive. The hidden partition contains the recovery OS image, just in case your system go wrong you can easily retore the computer using the recovery image.

I ordered a thinkpad through bing on January 8th and used a 15% off coupon (very similar code to the one mentioned here). No bing CB for me. I did not investigate or inquire since the coupon was > than the bing.

YMMV

Last reply so I don't mud it up too bad (though we are discussing the product). I put a question mark at the 1440x900 because that is what I found on a quick google search. And to say that the resolution doesn't matter is still incorrect, it is a pretty big difference between 480p and 720p if you are sitting at the computer an arms-length away. And don't insult people saying "you do realize the screen is 12.1", it's clearly in the title and I own an X60 Tablet (and yes, even on my 1024x768 I can clearly tell a difference between 720p and 480p when I'm that far away).

If it was there it is gone now...don't see that add or that pricing available

double posted

gp1200x said: If it was there it is gone now...don't see that add or that pricing available

Just checked, it's still there. You can't find it in the "X series" page, you have to go to the "special offers" page. Read the instructions above.

Sorry for those who placed their orders. Maybe you should cancel yours, because there is a hotter deal.

Basically, it's the same deal that OP and I mentioned above. But thanks to Binmiao11 in this thread
http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/hot-deals/986599/

the deal just got much hotter.

Go to Lenovo.com/cpp, use passcode ibmcontractor

Find the same deal on the X200 ($999 on Lenovo.com, $849 on cpp page)
Again remove the Ultrabase to get $200 off.
Add options that you would like to upgrade.

When checking out, use ecoupon "USESAVEX7" to get extra 7% off.
Tax is about $50.

All in all, total discount is about the same as the deal I posted above with ecoupon + Bing CashBack. But as some of you mentioned, using ecoupon may void Bing CashBack and so the deal was YMMV. With this deal, you get the discount for sure and don't have to wait for CashBack.

This is a bit misleading for two reasons.

1. HD content CAN be beneficial on a small display, it all depends on how close you sit. You can see just as much detail on a 12" display at two feet as you can on a 60" display at 10 feet (basic math). Visual acuity research tells us that you'll be able to see higher than 480p detail on a screen this size at any distance under 3.5 feet, which is quite reasonable for a laptop.

2. Even if you *can't* see the difference, that doesn't mean that Blu-ray is irrelevant. Many people have Blu-ray collections and would like to be able to play them on the road.

I'm no HD industry shill. In fact I frequently argue the other side of this topic (see some of my posts in support of 720p TV sets on FatWallet). Great info from Carlton Bale

If you are on the road with a 12" laptop like this(prob traveling "light") your best bet it "down rezing" to a portable media file and putting those DVDs or Blu Rays on your HD in "decent quality".

I'm not gonna bring my BR collection on the road. But I can bring a few hundred movies fine for a 12" screen on a HD the size of a cigarette pack or a bunch just on the HD.

I don't really disagree with your point about seeing "detail", but a 12" screen is a 12" screen no matter how close you sit to it. It really isn't basic math when you are talking about HD honestly..because while the "detail" might be there it is in the end a 12" screen. I agree with your points more than the post you were answering, just pointing out my OPINION also

Hmmm... I'm getting an error at the top of the cart that says:

"Cannot order cart that has invalid prices."

Won't let me check out. Didn't do anything different as far as I can tell. Used the ccp site, used the ibmcontractor ID, pick the $849 X200, deleted the base, added Bluetooth, added the coupon. I get:

--------------------------
Subtotal: $1,549.00

Sale Price: $713.15

eCoupon: Apply

Note: The eCoupon code is case sensitive

[USESAVEX7] -$49.92
xxxxxx@xxxxxx.com

Estimated total: $663.23*
Total savings $885.77
--------------------------

But again no way to check out because of the error above.

Any ideas?

EDIT TO ADD: Nevermind, I think that I found the problem. It doesn't let me remove the base with the preconfigured X200 with a 250 GB drive and 3 MB memory; otherwise, you get the error. It does with the $832 model with a 160 GB and 2 MB.

As is the case in the OPs post, you must have a configuration valued at more than $743 or you cannot place the order...
