Microcenter has the unibody(the newest white one) Macbook for $799 Plus tax at their online store or for B&M. This is very close to a low ened Macbook pro with so many good features and a great price point. The best part is there is NO REBATE required. Here is the link
this is the old outdated macbook (not pro) aluminum. The white one has undergone a change updated ports and unibody as well. thats 799 after rebate at MC. I'd stick to the white at that price!
i dont know..best bet is to make a printout and take it to bestbuy and see what they say..try to talk to the manager if they say no and try to be nice and cool

I don't know what you meant by old and outdated. This is the exact same model on Apple's website they currently sell; unibody and multi-touch trackpad, but not aluminum.

This is the same deal Microcenter was running before Christmas. All things considered, it's a pretty good deal.

Not the same deal. This one has no gift card. The deal before was $999 - $200 gift card rebate = $799
Now it's just $799. No need to wait for rebate. And no tax on $200
still tax on $800....I hate tax (I love you Newegg, I love you Amazon)
are you sure it's unibody? the model number points to a white macbook.

I saw this on slickdeals first and got a SUPER hot deal at the microcenter in Houston. They were selling one open box unibody at the price of $583!!!! After tax, it came out to be $632.14!!!! The only flaw on the mac was that it had a minor superficial scratch on the cover. I checked the warranty status on the apple website and the warranty ends on 1/15/2011. So it's pretty much brand new, except for the minor scratch.... Still boggled at how cheaply I was able to get this beautiful machine at such a low price. Obviously, this is an extreme YMMV.

Looks like the current unibody model to me. Same model# too.

I am a Microsoft MCSD certified, MS in Computer Science dummy who uses a Mac with Parallels. Let's stay away from the Mac vs PC discussion and focus on discussing the deal.
Good Deal! I'm wondering... For the folks here who have purchased from Microcenter at this low price. Do you also then buy the Applecare warranty? $250..? Thanks..
I purchased my Macbook at Microcenter in Philadelphia/St. Davids but purchased 3 year Apple Care from eBay for $118. Registered it with Apple with no problem. Received my Apple Care certificate in the mail from Apple about 1 week later.
Sure, you can do it but it is not for everyone. You need to worry whether OS updates will break something, little glitches that come here and there, etc. Basically, it is a fun hobby.
I am saying this from my personal experience. I started building hackintoshes in 2005, even before the first OS X for Intel platforms was officially released. I now have two hackintoshes but also four macs (2 minis + 2 macbooks). The hackintoshes (a Dell T7400 dual xeon workstation + Dell 9 mini) work well, with constant and tender care. I spend way too much time tweaking them---but it's fun!
But if you are an average computer user, I do not recommend going the hackintosh way. In the long run, you can always sell your mac for a decent $ as they retain their value much better than pretty much any other PC. I sold my 2007 macbook, which I bought for $900, for $625 just a month ago, See if you can do that with a non-mac laptop.
I have a Unibody macbook pro and it's super easy to upgrade the ram and hard drive, just loosen the bottom cover, 10 screws I think and it's all right there. I would bet the Poly mac is the same. I think this is a great deal, I bet this won't get quite as hot as my macbook pro does on the bottom.
