While this is a good price even considering just the CPU, imo, it may not be a good "value" in the very near term. At present, this is what I feel are real good Boxed-CPU/MB combo values @FRY's:
. Dual-core (DDR2 RAM): $50 - $70
. Quad-core (DDR2-RAM): $70 - $100
. Quad-core (DDR3-RAM): $130 - $150

Take this $99 ad for an E7400, with a DDR3 MB, for example. Since you have to use the pricier DDR3 on this MB, imo, yo would be better off going for the $120-$150 quad-core/iX/ddr3-based-MB combos of last week. For an additional $20-50, you would've gotten more bang-for-the-buck, I think... Decent "future proof", to boot.

Just 1 week back they had the Athlon-II-X4-620+BiostarMB for $70... Now that was one of the best minimalistic quad-core deals, in the recent past, I thought... Beats even my "value" classification above... very rare tho, and usually OOS within an hour or so.

I have e6300 with ddr2 ovlerclocked slightly to 3.6. it.s more then enough computing power for me.

unless you do phot editing, video editing, or some kind of hard core encording, this combo will do it for most people. imo

It may be enough, but it's not necessarily the smart thing to buy. Considering the total cost of a whole system, an extra $20 (AR) for a combo like the Phenom X4 945 from last week isn't that much overall, yet would provide a lot more value, especially as the system ages.

True. The same as Danzilla, I also have a few old Core 2 Duo processor based systems. These were the first processors that could handle everything I wanted to do with a computer... and still do. Either the system has to die, or there has to be a "killer app" to come out to make me upgrade to a core ixxx processor.

If I had a processor & mb die today, I would almost certainly go core ixxx. In absence of actually needing the extra compute power, though, I would try replace either one (cheaply) before moving on to "Core i" if I could. Once replacement of either the MB or processor gets above $120ish, you might just as well go with a Frys combo for "Core i".
