do u know of any small laptop <12" that has atom 330 dual core?
Office Max officemax.com $30 off $150 online coupon - just search on eBay for officemax coupons and there are many to choose from... .99c can get you one, there's a thread somewhere on fw about this laptop..or maybe it was SD?
On the officemax Acer laptop (Acer Aspire (AS5732Z-4280)), dont forget to use bing (see officemax store) to get 3% off ($11.10) WITH the coupon ($30 off $150 or more purchase) to bring the total to 358.89 (plus taxes) - I was able to combine the coupon/bing and my bing CashBack account is confirmed showing the CashBack, fyi.
Also need to add the Toshiba Satellite L505D-LS5010 NoteBook AMD Athlon II M300(2.0GHz) 15.6" 4GB Memory DDR2 800 250GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi ATI Radeon 4100 - Retail from Newegg for $421.40 after BCB, free ship. See it here.
When you click on the laptop - Toshiba Satellite (A505-S6033) 16" Laptop w/ Core i7 720QM (2.8GHz) $899.99 w/ Free In-Store Pickup at BestBuy.com - the specifications at BestBuy are for the slower hard drive.
I'm just curious, but why would anyone want a netbook when you can get a laptop for just a little more. A netbook costs arond $300 when a decent laptop can be had for $400-$450? Is the portability the only issue? I'm trying to decide what to get for my daughter in college. I'm planning to replace her hand-me-down that is 3+ years old which seems to be sufficient but slow. She's using an AMD Sempron 3300 @ 2 Mhz with 2G of RAM. The only drawback is the 80G HD and no built-in webcam. However, here XP Home is very stable.

I've had both - laptop & netbook though they were always my secondary computer. Both have their pro's & con's. If you're just surfing, doing a little work and need to be portable, the netbook is great. Easy to put in your handbag & you're off to where ever.
If she plans on doing bigger projects or a lot of time on the computer, the smaller screen & keyboard can be frustrating. Ask your daughter. If your daughter is in college, she is old enough to have an idea what she needs.
The only thing I would change is have it in price order...
The best deal (cheapest) I found was B/M Microcenter 299 for emachine (same as acer) AMD uni-processor with 2G/160G w/ 15.4" & DVD/RW & cardreader. Has good built in (Rad 3200 equiv) graphics! Can be upgraded to dual-core TL-50 (S1 socket) for under ten bucks and a lesson on "how to strip a laptop and rebuild it". [You can go with faster S1 sockets dual-cores, too.] But, it's only about 2.5 hours on (6-cell) battery.

You have to realize there are two different types of laptop/netbook buyers: those who are looking for something to supplement their primary PC, and those looking to buy something to use AS a primary PC. Those looking to supplement tend to look to the netbooks because they're cheaper, smaller, lighter, and often get better battery life. Those looking for a primary system tend to look at laptops because they have bigger screens, more power, bigger keyboards, and other additional things such as more ports.
I personally believe in having two systems - one desktop system for use at home, which should be powerful and comfortable in every way, and something portable. For me, anything other than a netbook would be silly - 99% of my use is web browsing, video watching, and simple word processing. A netbook is more than powerful enough for those things to be just as snappy as you could want. My use tends to be mobile - 15 minutes of use in the kitchen to refer to a recipe, 45 minutes in the garage to refer to automotive service guides, two hours to watch a movie in the car if I'm on a long trip and someone else is driving - all things that are helped by having a computer that is super portable and gets great battery life. Now, if my use was only semi-portable - by which I mean that I tended to need a portable computer, but but for stationary, sit-yourself-down-plug-in-pull-out-the-mouse-and-get-some-real-work-done kind of use - I might consider something bigger, more for the bigger screen and keyboard than for the additional processing power.

Just as an update...the ASUS is cheaper at TigerDirect.com Its 699.99 but 599.99 after $100 mail in rebate. You can use BCB at 10% to bring the total down to $530 with free shipping.
