TBH, these deals are not that great.

Swing and a miss! Both intel deals are great IMHO.

The e3200 alone sells for $49.99 at Newegg. That combo would be great for any hdmi setup.

i5 661 isn't that great. You can get a 750 for the same amount of money.

Fry's motherboard economics are strange. At least you can get a better deal than the 661 combo every couple of weeks. It actually is a good deal considering the lowest price for the CPU elsewhere is over $190 and the motherboard is $110. Plus you don't need a video card since it's integrated into the CPU. Then again it's only dual core, but a really fast one.

Gaming wise, single-core and dual-cores are pretty much useless nowadays. I'd rather wait for the Athlon II X4, i5 750, and Phenom II X4 945+ deal to come back.

If you buy the "INTEL CORE I5 661 + BIOSTAR TH55HD" you must be really rich, because you're paying $200+ for a dual-cores.

These deal might seem like a steal to the people that don't live near Frys but to me it's not that great, maybe it is because Frys is a 5 miles drive from where live. =/

Fyi the
* INTEL CELERON E3200 + MSI G31TM-P21 29.99 AR + TAX ($10 MIR) ITEM# 608939

is OOS at the Downers IL location

Deals are confirmed at the Alpharetta/Milton GA store.

Picked up this one myself (@ ~12:30pm):

INTEL CELERON E3200 + MSI G31TM-P21 29.99 AR + TAX ($10 MIR) ITEM# 608939

"Nowadays" dual-core is still more or less what most games can only utilize. Maybe in the next few years your statement will become correct.

That G31TM-P21 board has 4 SATA ports! Going to grab one to setup my FREENAS server :-D

AMD PHENOM II X4 925 + GIGABYTE GA-MA790XTA-UD4 169.99 AR + TAX ($20 MIR) ITEM# 6149449
is decent deal. More expansive the last week deal of Phenom II 945 + motherboard for $139.00

However, GIGABYTE GA-MA790XTA-UD4 has two usb 3.0 port (5gb/s) + 2 SATA 3.0 Ports (6GB/s) + 2 e-sata port + 1394 FireWire
Most cheap motherboard does not have these feature. The only limitation is cross-fire will be limited to 8x pci-e lanes instead of 16x. The motherboard costs average around $139.00.

There are two version AMD Phenom II X4 925 (rev C2 vs C3).
If you can get rec. c3, by looking at Part#HDX925WFK4DGM, then It's good deal.

What the expected power consumption of the Celeron setup, assuming that you will have four WD green SATA drives, and most of the time the server will be idling or sleeping? THanks a lot.

I bought this same board with a Celeron E1400 on a Frys combo a few weeks back ( 34.00 after rebate - Darn) for my FreeNAS .7 server Running 3 1TB WD Caviar Green drives with a gigabit pci card, it is idling at about 47 watts. At boot time it goes up to high 70-75w. (This is measured with a Kill-a-Watt meter) I plan to get another drive so that will bring up idle to about 50 watts.)

i was wondering what's the difference between e1400 and e3200?

They are both dual core celerons but the E3200 is on the newer 45nm process so should take even less juice.

Yup bought the same combo "i got the e1500 instead xD"
I purchased it on the 31st of Jan, we can still return them within 15 days since today would be the 12th xD, im still thinkon on it and buy that antec sonata case since the storm scout i purchased earlier is very nice but i'd rather have quietness.

I got the Celeron Combo....had a problem with no video and no posting...it was because I tried to use DDR2 4200 memory...slapped in some 6400 and I was off to the races...nice deal! Thanks OP! Stopped in Downers Grove IL.

I got the AMD PHENOM II X4 925 + GIGABYTE GA-MA790XTA-UD4 169.99 AR + TAX ($20 MIR) ITEM# 6149449 but counter people said there was no rebate. This was the Portland Oregon one.

Don't worry about it, it's in the receipt you get when you make a purchase.

The actual URL to the rebate is there.

If anyone is told by the frys sales associates that they are sold out, I recommend you go up to a checkout clerk and ask them to ask the cage attendant to check inventory. There was a customer return on the e3200 that wasn't on the system. Had to go back to the sales associates, and they called the cage to confirm.

You are sadly, sadly, sadly misinformed.
