HOT?
My 1st post so please don't flame (too badly)
$624 + $9.95 shipping
Gateway Gateway NV5929u (mislabeled as NV5927u), i5-430m, 4GB DDR3 memory, Blu-ray disc drive, n-wifi, 6-cell battery, 15.6", Windows 7 64-bit
Look on Amazon then search for "other sellers."
I have no idea how long this is good for, but it seems a LOT better than ~$500-$600 for a dual core machine (IMHO).

This is the Best buy deal from a couple of weeks ago. You can get a much better deal off fleabay after BCB.

P.S. The BestBuy deal was $499 B&M

And to be clear, they aren't mislabeled 5929s. They are, in fact, 5927s. Gateway ran out of the Core i3 processors that should have gone in these and had to put i5s in them instead. While that makes these equivalent to a 5929, they are still officially 5927s--which means if you have to ship one in to Gateway for service and they have to replace the CPU, you could very easily end up getting an i3 back. So, grain of salt.

I have one that im willing to sell ( i can still return it cause im premier silver). if anyone wants it in either atlanta or chicago areas, PM me. I bought it at the 499 price.

They didn't 'run out' of i3's. THEY SCREWED UP! They aren't going to purposely make a computer with a i5 and take a loss selling at a i3 price. And no one knows for sure if they would go so far as to open up the computer with all the labor involved, and take out a used CPU. To do what? Resell the i5 as new?

If you bought a car without air conditioning only to find out it did have AC, is the dealer going to remove the AC next time service is needed? It's their screw up! The deal is already done.

It's just like when a product is advertised at the wrong price. By California law, they have to sell it to you at that price until a disclaimer is posted. They aren't going to try to add on the difference if you need to exchange it later.

Gateway = garbage w/garbage Customer No Service...

Both my personal experience and consumer ratings support that, btw. Bottom of the laptop dependability heap:

HP
Gateway

.

This is a HOT deal even at 699.

Dell lies

Intel couldn't fulfill Gateway's i3 order in time, so Gateway had to use the i5s in order to fulfill Best Buy's order. But, hey, whatever you say bud. No way it's possible that any of these companies screwed up and had to eat a small loss in order to prevent pissing off a huge client, right? That could never happen...

"and they have to replace the CPU" would pretty clearly imply a situation in which the CPU was the source of the problem. Nobody is stupid enough to think that they would pull the CPU out for an unrelated issue and try to reuse it elsewhere--well, I say nobody, but that idea does seem to have popped into your head, so maybe there's at least one person. Or how about a scenario where they can't fix whatever is wrong with the laptop? They'll replace it with another of the same model, which (according to the box, the sticker, and the serial number) is a 5927. So the replacement will almost certainly have the correct processor for the model: an i3.

And in the future, instead of just speculating, perhaps you could go back and read the original threads (here and on other forums) from when we all bought these laptops a few weeks ago. Then you'd see that people CALLED GATEWAY and found out exactly what I posted. A CSR specifically told someone that if the CPU had to be replaced, it would be replaced by the part called for by the laptop's serial number--which specifically designates it as a 5927.

So believe what you want. I did my due diligence before buying it and thought I'd share the information with anyone who was considering buying one. If you don't appreciate that, I don't particularly care.

What's wrong with it that you are willing to sell it?

First, I'd like to thank you, and every one else so far, for taking my post in the manner intended. You're right that this is not HOT now that I look back at earlier prices, but I've been looking for a better price for a week and this is better than any that are listed in the "FAT WALLET" forums (fora). So, in my defense I think I'll say that it's a good deal and better than what you can get lately, as seen in the various deal sites i.e. fat wallet, slick deals, etc. unless you want to deal with eBay, and even there the prices are higher.

Take it easy all, and happy fat-walleting!

Hey i want it, if you want to sell
