In a way I'm thankful to the 1080p pixel queens because they reduce demand for 720p sets. Without them these deals would be much more scarce...and I probably wouldn't have purchased so many TVs.

Is it worth giving up 3 inches of screen, for 1080p and 120hz?
No, this is by far a better tv. Sharps arent among the better LCD's when it comes to the larger sizes to begin with. 120hz is not a factor on any plasma. Motion wise, any plasma is going to be better then the very best LCD's as the phosphor pixels operate a lot faster the LCD pixels, and in terms of motion resolution, plasma has always been able to show a higher number of lines then LCD. That really has nothing to do with physical resolution, but with how much detail is shown within the picture as it moves vs a static image....basicly a plasma looses less detail in motion then an LCD. That said, LCD's can resolve a high enough number of lines during motion that it's one of those things that isnt a factor in real world viewing since your eyes cant make it out anyways, just a better spec.
Anyhow, I generally prefer LCD myself, and there are some nice high end LCD's out there....but when it comes to these lower end sets, it's almost an absolute no brainer that pretty much any plasma will be technicaly better then low to even midrange LCD's.
with the whole 720p/1080p thing...I absolutely agree that you'll be hard pressed to tell any difference unless the set is too big too close....to an extent. I say this cause while absolutely true in terms of resolution, 720p sets are low models these days thus you often get more and better features and specs with 1080p sets. There is also one other aspect where you may be able to see a difference, which depends on the sets processing and not just plainly cause of the resolution.....since most hd tv channels and such are 1080i, and some dont account for very much overscan if any at all lately, depending on the set's processing to convert the 1080i to 720p, you may get the occaisional clipped channel logo or something on those channels where as a 1080p set will show the full picture pixel for pixel. Again, depends on how the set does the conversion, but I have seen it happen.
Bottom line, between this (or panasonic) 720p plasma and that Sharp LCD....Forget the sharp and get the plasma. No question about it.
RightPatriot said: MSRP is only $800, anyone know why they released a new set with such a low MSRP? Usually they make it much higher and discount it.
usual technology....MSRP's across the board on TV's keep getting cheaper. Always usually not much of a discount on new models as they are released, but start really surfacing a few months later. Makes me wonder just how much cheaper HDTV's can get. I think we are probably just about there and will get to where we just see better sets for the same money then better AND drasticly cheaper sets every year before too long.

I checked on line on 3-2 and the status changed from back ordered to processing....a few hours later I got a "order shipped" email with tracking number. It came from Brooklyn, NY by truck to Arkansas in 2 days. I placed my order very early the day the deal was posted.

If you paid extra for 1080p LCD over 720p plasma, you may want to believe you are seeing something better for TV viewing to justify the extra cost.
Or, you can use the money you save to buy a lot of other stuff.
Right and my 2008 BMW 5 series is better than any Toyota because "I want to believe" it is to justify the extra cost.
Nice rationalization, sadly things don't work that way.
Actually you most likely will see better picture on the 720p for anything that is not 1080p (over the air viewing and many other things). Reason being is if its not 1080p the image will have to be "filled" in on a 1080p tv in order to show the picture on the whole tv. It upscales the image to its native resolution (1080). For me 720 is actually better. The picture LITERALLY looks night a day vs my friends 1080p tv (one is a 52" LG and the other is a 40" Sony), this is viewing the exact same content (dvd and torrent tv shows). Most tv shows were very watchable at 720 but looked horrible on the lcd. Now im sure its not just the resolution and the lcds must have worse electronics for scaling images, but it makes sense that the resolution is playing a big part.

also I've read some things about buzzing coming from this unit. Anyone else have this problem?
Non reflective screens :
1. Panasonic's have the most non reflective coating , but does somewhat effect color/brightness of screen , but ever so slightly . 2. Samsungs a close second to Panasonic , but no color/brightness change 3. LG , NO non reflective coatings at all .
The Samsung "buzz" problem was more on very late 50" 2008, early 2009 models . Basicly the buzz thing is no longer an issue .
I was always on the 720p on a smaller set is same as 1080p, until I got a blu-ray player. If you watch sports, ESPN broadcasts in 720p, or highly compressed DISH or CABLE, you probably won't notice it..., and thats 90% of most peoples viewing habits, but hook up a blu-ray and if you don't see the difference, see you opthalmologist soon.
Got this in today. Looks great. Note of caution, the screws to assemble the stand, and the screws that attach from the stand to the television were ridiculously hard to screw in for some reason. Recommend using an offset screwdriver for additional torque.
