Hadn't kept up with WD's releases recently. The EARS line has some tasty new features: 64MB cache 500GB platters (which means this is a great 2-platter drive) 4kB physical sectors (see http://www.anandtech.com/storage/showdoc.aspx?i=3691&p=2)
This looks like an excellent price for the latest line of WD green drives.
cmv said: Any problems with using these in RAID arrays like the prior WD green drives?
Edit: Looks like not (same synch/speed issues). Still tempted to buy one as a stand alone but look into potential issues if you're thinking RAID.
Could you please elaborate on the sync/speed issues related to the Green drives? I have a pair of 1TB drives on RAID 1 in an external enclosure, I've not had any problems yet, I've had it for at least 6 months and have use it pretty sparingly since it is primarily for storage.
I googled it and found issues with TLER (Time Limited Error Correction) and there are fixes for it directly from WD. Are there anything else? Any help is appreciated.
