Nikon instant rebates is live at B&H. If you're looking for a D300s, this is a nice kit:

Link - add item to cart to see price. Free UPS Ground shipping. Don't forget 3% Bing CashBack which should net you about 1990. The VRII lense is ~ $700.

Well seem to be a good deal. But depends on if you're pro. otherwise i'll prefer D5000 over it. its cheaper and gives all the flexibility you need to take pics. People can debate on it, but just my 2 cents.

I'd go for the Sony A850 over this one any day ...

Towhead is crazy!!! Who buys Sony for SDLR??? If too much get the Nikon D90. D5000 is a souped up D40 body!!

I totally agree with nongdam, no one buys a Sony for DSLR. The only thing i like more about D5000 is that in that price range its the only DSLR which gives you 720p video mode. So i don;t have to carry a camcorder with me on a vacation trip. I agree people will comment about the its video capabilities, but all i'm considering here is the easy of carrying only one device rather that 20 other.

Consider this if you already own a dslr and thinking of upgrading. If you're new to dslr, the Nikon x000 series are good starting choices.

Totally agree, hence my comment before that if you're a PRO, then yes D300 is a best choice.

Im surprised with the Sony bashing... Sony is very respectable in DSLR. Everyone knows that the quality of the picture is in direct relation to the quality of the glass. There are tons and tons of excellent lenses available for the Sony (i.e. Minolta). The Sony DSLR's are IMHO the best bang for your buck, if you don't intend on spending thousands of dollars on lenses. Sony doesn't have the Name in DSLR but read the reviews and unless you're a professional (i.e. use your camera to pay your mortgage) the Sony alpha's do quite well.

on top of that (omarq), the Nikon DSLR sensors are made by Sony...
I'm a Sony-hater, but that's just a personal choice

Well I'm not going to totally disagree with you, but minolta let it's line of cameras lag behind quite a bit before Sony picked them up. They're not quite back in the running yet.

I'm a pentax guy myself...but respect all the brands to some degree or another. Besides, all these goddamned cameras are so good nowadays anyway...

With respect, that means nothing. Kodak makes a lot of good sensors, but has made (from waht I've seen) nothing but crap cameras.

Honestly, it doesn't matter who you are going with, just be prepared to spend a lot of money on lens and the rest of the bottomless bag of DSLRs.

I had this combo for $1969 in my Amazon Goldbox a few days ago. It was in my recommendations. Not in stock and sold by Amazon now, but if you have until the end of the month for the rebate . . .

If you're going to buy a D300s, might as well skip the 18-200. Go for some higher quality glass
