Different SKU too, 6192099 for the Q8400 combo ($199-$20MIR) vs 6192049 for the Q9650 combo in Dallas ($269.99-$20MIR). I'm thinking the Q8400 deal is better personally, but I'd recommend that if you're going to Frys looking for one of these combos, write down BOTH SKUs. When you get there have the CSR check each SKU, as long as the board is in stock they will probably honor both deals (assuming the CPU is in stock too).

They typically won't. What you see in the ad is what is in their computers at the b&m.

Wish I had a Fry close - I have been keeping an eye for this a long time - this is almost 1/2 price...........
q8400 would give you better bang for the buck, but a q9650!! you should be able to hit 4.2ghz on air with that.
dreamtime: $249 deal for q9650 vs. the $279 i7/920/x58m deal from frys a few months ago; i7 deal would probably be slightly better bang for the buck, but the ram will cost you more, and who knows if that deal will ever come around again.
Hmm... for just $10 more, I would've gone with the i7 860 deals that Fry's has popping up every now and then. Almost the same prices as this deal (on average).

green for this q9650!!
The i7 is cheaper on Newegg than the q9650 why is it a better deal?
Darn i hoped this was online as well as i live in VA, we have microcenter but no frys
Consider this payback for all the microcenter B&M deals I've missed out on then.
I like the idea of a hackintosh (for kicks) but I think I'll just wait for the next i7 deal to roll around.

This is good for those with a lot of DDR2 memory that they got last year for dirt cheap prices. Otherwise, i7 is a faster. I was very tempted with the Bay Area deal with Q8400. I have decided against it because I would rather upgrade to DDR3 memory when the prices are memory more reasonable.
Wish there were some left! I have been using the Q9550 on the GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P for over one year now and cannot say enough positive things about it!
Wow, wow, wow!
Have a great day everyone!

Purchased Q8400 combo in Campbell, CA last night. 2 MOBOs remained on the shelf there.
