I ran across this today at a Home Depot in NW Ga while looking for a heat gun to strip paint. These were originally in the mid to upper $70s and can be gotten on the web for between $60 - 80. I didn't consider them at that price, but under $20 was too good to pass up. Only $5 more than a replacement pad. The Wagner PaintEater gets an above average on Amazon and about the same from toolsnob. I don't see the item on Home Depot's website, only the replacement pads, so it may be a nationwide clearance.
The key to the system is the pad. I made the mistake of putting latex over oil on my house trim, and it peeled pretty badly. This was the best method I found of getting the loose stuff off and leaving a pretty smooth transition between the stuff that flaked away, and the stuff that stuck to the wood.
I just bought the pads and put it on an electric car buffer. Pretty much burned out the motor from all the paint dust though. (Good thing it was borrowed!) At $19 for the machine too is a great deal. Hope I can find one.
BTW, Thanks, for saying what area of the country you found it in. Too many posts on this site just say "at MY store" wherever that is.
Edit: No go in Enfield, CT. Still $79

Do you have a SKU/Item number for this? Would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

I went to three Home Depots along the I25 and C470 corridors in the Denver area. All were still priced at $79 both on the shelf and at the register. If someone sees the price drop on these in this area, please PM me. I need to paint this year and I have some scraping to do.
