You need a .edu e-mail address at a qualifying institution. FYI, the Windows 7 version they sell is an upgrade version, requiring a previous, valid installation of Windows on the machine.

Downloading the Windows 7 files from Digital River was impossible. THe servers couldn't keep up and timed out constantly - sometimes after 99% of the download. I wasted hours putzing around trying to download it. I called DRig River a couple of times, they were nice but their instructions didn't help. Finally, I got pissed and called Microsoft and requested they send me a disk set and also ask their vendor, dig river, to shape up.

Many people including myself, got the win 7 full install Professional, during their student promotion, but that is long over, last I check (may be wrong).
Purchase Office Ultimate 2007 from Microsoft's Ultimate Steal for $60 (for students) and get Office 2010 FREE when it comes out!
Microsoft upgraded their Ultimate Steal by giving Office 2010 upgrade FREE
Cheers Mike Have one in college, 2nd one starting college this fall. Very interested in this combo deal. On above OP link, I do not see any mention of free upgrade to Office 2010. Where do I find / prove to MS my eligibility for free upgrade when it is released?
