Erm, what's to trial? The thrill of free shipping will distort your immediate buying patterns, and calculating whether or not you'll somehow recoup the annual fee is impossible because with different ordering habits you might have gotten FS anyway. We've had the service for a couple of years and it's nice not to have to think about it, but I'd never stand up in front of an audience of accountants and brag that it's a frugal thing to do.

I got this offer and I am not a new member, had tried it out over a year back.

I would stand up in a crowd of accountants and brag that it's a frugal thing to do: if I was a student, had a relative who was a student, or paid more than 80 bucks a year for shipping (obviously). The nice thing about Prime that they may yet crack down on is that you can give the benefits to your family (up to 4 people). So I gave it to my parents (never use it), my sister (student, uses it all the time), and my gf (used it a lot around xmas). My sister and I split the cost. At 40 bucks a year it is hard to beat.

Hell, the 3.99 option for overnight shipping is worth it for impatient people like myself.

I signed up to get the BOGO Anco wiper blades. How do you cancel after the one month trial? I'm assuming they don't send you any kind of reminder hoping you lost track.

How? When I signed up there was only a one month.

Go to the Your Account link in the upper right of just about any page on Amazon.

You should see a like called "Manage Prime Membership"

There, you will should see an option to "not upgrade/renew automatically" (I can't remember the exact workding, but it is something like that).

Once you have chosen that, you don't have to worry about it. Once your free Prime trial is up, you account will automatically go back to a "normal" account and they won't charge you anything.

Perfect works great thanks!

Amazon shipping process is great even without the Prime membership...I don't have Amazon prime membership, and every time I order something I get my shipment delivered within 2 days and sometimes the next day. I'm just shocked how they make their money with the shipping cost.

The normal budget shipping is pretty nice already, but one benefit of prime is to share with family. In that way, more people benefit from the "one" membership. It's like having broadband but using several PCs/laptops in the abode, instead of just one.

The other advantage is that you don't have to reach $25 to get the free shipping. This is already a bonus because I'm one of those who kept buying fillers to reach $25 (especially when you're close to $20 or $24 or so), but of course, you'll likely go above $25.

Ultimately, the benefit of any of these deals is that, if it helps you, it's good. If it doesn't, then you just used money on something you don't really need or like.

My point was not that prime was or wasn't a good deal, just that the only way to come even close to figuring out whether or not it's a Hot Deal (this is Fat Wallet, remember?) is to keep track of your shipping expenses for at least a couple of months WITHOUT it. Someone please tell us they actually did that.
