I've been following the 46EX500 ever since I saw it in a Sony Style Store last month. I just checked Best Buy this morning and the price dropped from $1099 to $989.99. I don't know if this is in retaliation to Costco or Sears, as Sears has 5% off all televisions over $400 right now. Granted, the warranty may not be what you can get at Costco, but the way the tech is moving now, I think in 3 years a 3-D 46" will be around $800 and a 2-D will be a hard to find item (think 720P right now )
I saw this posted in a review section for the 46ex500:
"Hey there FYI ...I just went to Costco if you go ASAP ask them for the Sony rain check on the old vertion of the NEW Model Number: KDL-46EX500 and they will give you the new one for the same price of the old version for $799 Why? because Sony has no more old vertions left to send to Cosco so Costco will honner the rain check for the new ones for $799 kick butt price go try it ASAP !!!!"

Abe's of Maine has it for $949 with free shipping and no sales tax. Which is the better deal?
