Perhaps not flaming hot, but warm? I bought it to load Windows on my netbook since I didn't want to mess with the USB thumb drive method.
Update: Bing is offering 4% CashBack so this could become $41.28 after BCB. Seems like a good deal considering Newegg's cheapest external is $35 for just a DVD-ROM or $40 for a burner (which are both lite-on external drives, and don't have the best reviews). The last Memorex drive I bought YEARS ago was an NEC if I remember correctly...good quality. I'm hoping for the same here.
I got it last week from Buy.com -Shiped by geek. I simply like this drive because of speed & noiseless function.Only bad part about drive is size.it is size of my Dell mini so if i carry out with my comp it is like two mini's
I have the 16x Memorex USB external drive version I bought a few years ago (I think it cost more than this one). I finally fired it up and this drive is fantastic. It is quiet although it is big. Always burned my DVD's reliably with no coasters. In 4 1 since it is 20x and I can burn DVD's faster so I have more time to spend money on FW. Thanks OP.
Think of a car that go 90mph; but you would be stressing it out at 65-70mph. Ditto for the 20x. Unless you need your burnt DVD in a hurry, you would get better and significantly more reliable results at 8x, or even 12x.
