Thanks for the recent info update, I will be needing the discount shortly, as my 3 free years runs out in a little while on my Equinox.

Just got 15 months for 149 and 100 free minutes (Minutes good for 6 months). I was turned down last month but figured I would try again since service runs out the middle of this month. She said they always have some kind of special and the special at this time would be about 19 dollars a month but then said they had a special for my vehicle. Said I could get 12.90 for 6 months with 100 free minutes. I said I heard some were getting offered 15 months for 149 and she said she had to check with supervisor. Came back with at first a 14 month offer> I ask if any free minutes went with it and she said no. She then said I could have 15 months for 149. I said OK I am going to take the offer but do you also have any offers for minutes I could buy too? She said..I will also give you the 100 minutes of calling good for 6 months. She was very nice and did not give me a hard time like the person last month. THANKS OP and people that kept this topic alive.

Called about the Safe and Sound $149 Loyalty rate, they said yes sure then they said no, your SUV is registered in Canadawe can not do it. I said cancel then I don't use it enough, they then said we will give you the US regular rate[$198]. I asked about the free minutes they said we will give you 100 free minutes. I guess I could have held out for more but I saved over $100 and 100 free minutes[ regular price in Canada is $289 plus taxes] so 149 would have been nice but all in all it beat what they wanted to start with, so thank you Fat Wallet and Thank you people!

I called today and they had to connect to the disconnect department. I was on a montly plan, don't ask me why. I asked for the $149 15months plan. They said they couldn't give me that. But did offer me the $149 and 100 free minutes good for 1 year. I took it. I really wanted to add minutes to my plan so I got $100 minutes basically for free. I saved myself $40 and $30 on my plan cost. It is definately worth a phone call. I"m sure I could have haggled more, but I didn't want to be greedy.

Called today as my free 6 months on new car was about to expire. Hit "6" and said I was thinking abut dropping the service unless they could offer me a good deal. The CS rep offered S & S @ $149 for 12 months right off the bat. I then asked for 3 years @ $399 but dispite sending her back twice to her supervisor they would not budge. I asked for 14 months she offered 13 months. I said ok but you have to give me some navigation months and carry my 300 minutes forward or no deal. She checked again and said ok, will give you 13 months S & S , carry your minutes forward and 6 months free navigation all for $149 and no tax. I said deal.
Thanks to fatwallet and everyone contributing their experiences.

I SAVED about $187.00 WOW I am so glad that I had the gumption to go looking for a 'DEAL'.

I got offered the promo 15 months for $149. I do not need the directions nor the minutes. I was happy with that deal. I would cancel but for the family it is probably a good thing to keep.

I got offered $149 for 12 months and 6 months navigation. They ended up giving me my first 3 moths free so all in all 15 month + 9 months navigation for $149

I have 2 Vehicles of which one is not a GMC. I have both vehicles covered with AAA Premier which includes a 200 mile tow as well as all of the typical emergency road services. Both vehicles are driven approximately 4000 miles per year (low mileage drivers). I have two months remaining on my 6 month OnStar provided when I purchased my GMC. I can't seem to justify renewing OnStar since we are not in the vehicles all that often. I have a smart phone, navigation system in the GMC vehicle. Also, I haven't locked myself out of a vehicle in over 30 years. I tried to use OnStar one time in 4 months because my steering wheel was locked. I couldn't get to OnStar emergency button because my vehicle didn't start and therefore no OnStar connection. That's my story. Good Luck to you!

Just tried to renew, but they wouldn't give anything but $150 for 12 months, and no minutes. I'm going to let the service drop and see what happens. I like the convenience of the in-car cell phone, but don't like the fact that the minutes are not on the same cycle as the onstar service itself.

Just talked with the cancellation department and they offered $149/12months with complementary options of a. 3 additional months free - OR b. 100 free minutes - OR c. 6 month navigation free

Wasn't eligible for $149 renewal with FMV device. Was offered $199 for 15 months + 6 months navigation.

Got 12 months for $149 plus 100 free minutes. July 22, 2013. Was told the $149 expired and I could get $169 but I explained if I could not get $149 then cancel. She put me on hold for a few minutes and came back with $149 plus the 100 minutes. I saved $50 and got to extend the life of my existing minutes another year without buying them for $43.xx

I just spoke with OnStar and I called back to speak with Michael who was transferring me to OnStar Loyalty Advisor. I was sent mail where I was offered the plan for 12.95 a month.... below it has a price of 13.86 a month with an "*" by this price. I flip over the letter to find the fine print on this sign. I read that the tax is estimated and the price can change. I was finally told by the last person that I spoke with that I could get a 12.95 plan per month and I could get that indefinitely and I would just have to call back every 6 months to get that..... but when I called back to Bruce to get the persons name that cxl my complimentary account ( which is a joke in itself)... Bruce told me that you cannot call back to get it.... it is only for 6 months. Also Bruce told me that the cxl department employee should have mentioned to me that I will lose my 298 minutes that were on my account and if I did want to cxl. I told Bruce that I was never asked...I told the employee in the cxl dept that I was reading note after note on the internet where people are getting a cheaper plan and 100 free mins and one lady got tier 2 retentions and was given an additional 50 mins free on top of the 100 mins and the cxl guy did not care. I went to hang up with him and he told me to hold that he was not done with my account which caught me off guard and he told me that he finished cxl my onstar acct. OMG..... it was complimentary.... I have 2 days left and I lose my free phone minuets? Should I add that I am a disabled man? LoL... It seemed to me that it was all a sales pitch for the 12.95 and if you did not take it, they probably were not getting commission on you and they did not care and wanted to get to the next person calling. I am shocked and I told him that I will be the first person in here to communicate that my account was cancelled instead of receiving the better offer which there are many posts on. Not sure if they changed overnight and are canceling now. I say get AAA and I have a cell phone.... I have service with my auto insurance too and I will purchase a garmin or tom tom for the map with turn by turn direction. I am not sure why GM offers onstar service in their cars when the customer is treated so bad. I bet Hyundai does such a better job in helping their customers than the way I was treated at OnStar.

rated:
I would not get for the service does not work if you read the notes on the service itself. AAA is much better and having a cell phone with unlimited minutes or minutes that roll over. Should not be talking on the phone in the car and s/b concentrating on the road and traffic instead. OnStar does not offer any more discounts now.... they cancelled my account which was FREE..because I did not like the plan that they had to offer....and I did not even call to cxl... they just cxl anyways.

What? I got the same discount as everyone else in this thread in January. OnStar works great, and the radio is allowed to run at much higher power than your standard phone... so you can get coverage in places a standard phone won't.

OnStar has saved me from lockouts, sounded the horn when a friend lost my car in a carlot, and told me that my car was fine to drive when the coolant sensors failed and flagged a check engine light.

I love OnStar, and it's one of the reasons why GM leads innovation.

I got a letter in the mail today and it says 12.95 a month for service which is only the safe and sound plan. At the bottom of the page it says 13.86 a month with a * by it. When I look for the fine print re: the *, the letter states "Estimated tax included and subject to change. Credit card or automatic debit required for monthly payments. Packages/prices are subject to changes." I had a high pressure sales girl from OnStar call me a couple weeks ago and told me that that was the only time I could get this rate of 12.95. I asked at the end if this was my rate forever or if it would change ( for I was OK with the rate) then and only then did she tell me that the rate goes up in 6 months. The last guy I spoke with tonight was Bruce and he was very nice and helpful and could not believe that my complimentary acct was cxl and that my 298 remaining phone mins were cxl along with the complimentary plan with no mention of it. Bruce told me that the 12.95 is the lowest price and they cannot offer that price anymore. Instead the lowest price now is 14.95. Also Bruce told me it was incorrect for me to be told that I can continue on the 12.95 plan indefinately for this is not so. Once the 6 months are up... I lose the rate and go to the regular plan rate. I am telling you that I spoke with 4 people tonight and no one offered a cheaper plan than this and the rate goes up after 6 months. I am not upset about the plan rate changes and stuff for I understand that they are changing the way that they are doing business. I DO have a problem with the guy that was caddy on the phone when I wanted to hang up and told me that he was not finished with my account yet.... I think I may have said something to the tune of what about my account and he told me that he was finishing to cancel it.... LoL. I have never been treated so poorly by a company before. I know for me.... I do not have a map in my 2011 impala.... I just have turn by turn directions. I would rather have a map so to invest in a garmin or the likes now has been decided by OnStar.... also, the phone is not important for I have a cell in case of an emergency. 2 buses were stolen in Orlando and they disconected the GPS and I know that the GPS and OnStar would be disconnected from the car if stolen.... and who would steal my car anyhow!?!. I may be inconvenienced if a lockout occurs but I am 50 yrs old and have not locked myself out of a car or anything yet. My last car was a Chrysler 300C and was probably more likely to be stolen then this crappy thing. lol. And my Chrysler did not have Onstar in it. I am cool without it. I am sure it may be good for you but wanted to let you know that it seems they are changing their prices now.

rated:
Actually, modern GM vehicles run a boot check for the OnStar module. Older ones didn't, but new GM vehicles are rarely stolen because if you disconnect OnStar, the car won't boot.

You can have OnStar removed, but only a dealer can do it, with a Tech 2 tool, while connected to GM so they can track who did the extraction.

Also OnStar modules are VIN coded and ESN matched at all times. Pop in someone else's OnStar VCIM... the car will have a cow. It's not like swapping plug-ins in other devices, ahem.

Source: Me. I swapped OnStar VCIMs in my car to get a newer one with Bluetooth.

$149 Promo will be ending in Oct. The new pricing for the annual will Be $169 Safe & Sound according to the 2 CSRs I talked. Even today, $149 pricing can't be offered but $169. She had to get a manager's override.

Anyway, today I got the $149 Safe & Sound for 12 months + 6 months free Directions & Connection. I could push for 15 months Safe & Sound + free 100 min, but she was reluctant. To get the $149, I had to tell her that $149 is still offered on my OnStar web account (with GM Employee Discount). Then, she told me she needs the manager's override.

Here's the URL for the price increase: https://www.onstar.com/web/portal/helptopics?topic=priceIncrease

GM sure loves to know how to wreck a good thing. I love the innovation, but hiking the price starts to sour.

* Lost the ability to add OnStar lines to a Verizon account
* Lost OnStar Hands Free ($5/month for 100 minute) plans
* Now the F&F price goes up to $169/year - while new cars smartphone services free for five years.

I love my Bluetooth VCIM, but I'm seriously starting to think this $20 hike is the breaking point. And that takes into account the post I penned four posts up. Over 10 years, that's $1,690 or about 1/8th the used price of a base used Pontiac Solstice today. Ouch.

rated:
There was something about Hands free min. I was offered 30 min for $13.xx. I let 200+ min expired early in the year. She said that she can reinstate the expired min if I buy some mins (sounded like any time they can reinstate if I buy mins).

And, I was given a choice between 100 min or 6-month free Directions & Connections. Not both.

Also, I don't understand why $169. According to the URL, $10 increase for annual plans ($1 more for monthly plan)...so should make it $159 instead of $169 at least for people with GM discount.

On the first CSR, I mentioned $149 for 15- or 16-months, but I can't remember if I said that to the second CSR. I just took the deal she offered me. My thought was occupied with staying with $149 + some kind of a freebie.

rated:
I think the standard monthly price is increasing $1/month, and the GM F&F discount is increasing $20 which narrows the spread between F&F pricing and standard pricing.

Probably, I suspect this is because GM has realized how many FW/SD/etc users there are out there taking advantage of the offer, and they're shaking the tree to see how many will drop off. I'm probably one of them... it's lame that OnStar 8.0 vehicles didn't get RemoteLink.

I bought a used 2008 Cadillac Escalade. Do you think it will have onstar or should I activate it? I am not familiar with onstar. Regarding navigation, is there a update for it? Thanks.

If you have Ink Bold, OnStar qualifies for extra 4 points/$ spent.

Cadillac OnStar Subscription:
I have a 2013 Cadillac XTS and the On Star was about to expire after the One Year Free Trial. I wanted to get the Full Package “Directions and Connections” ($28.90 monthly = $346.00 or the Annual Plan is $299.00).

So I called and selected the cancellation department option on the phone, told the Agent that I wanted to cancel because it was too expensive. She offered a discount on the monthly from $28.90 to $24.95 I said no thank you. So she said OK I will go ahead and cancel. OOPs … that’s not what I expected to happen so fast … so I said can’t you do a deal on an Annual Plan? And she then offered; “Safe and Sound” for $169 per year with a free upgrade to “Directions and Connections” for 6 months for additional $9.00 per month after the free 6 months expired. So I did a quick calculation and that equals $223.00 per year, since I had to be in a meeting in a few minutes I accepted this.

I think you could even get a better deal if you pass on the first offer but I did not have time to negotiate further. And my subscription was going to expire the next day.
Hope this helps someone.

Just called this morning, asked about a 2 year safe and sound & nav package and the first two people said they could only give me a $30 discount on the 1 year package. Said it was too expensive still and I have to consider canceling. Sent me to the cancelation department, told them I didn't want to cancel it was just too expensive and they wouldn't give me a deal on the two or three year package, but did give us 1 year @ $219.

Saved $80 on that one over listed price.

I had a 3 month trial ending, actually already ended but they claim they give you a couple extra days free. I wanted the State Farm 6 Months free, but they say account must be closed 30 days. They sounded like I could probably wait 30 days and get it, but I didn't know if I want to fuss with that and potentially lose my minutes.

Therefore, they gave me $14.95 for 6 months and 100 minutes which also makes the minutes I already had extend out until next Fall, I figure to keep my minutes and get 100 extra minutes might be worth paying $14.95 a month and not being without service for a month, not sure.

Maybe I should have waited and cancelled. $14.95 isn't horrible for an extra phone, especially as my old Saab doesn't have bluetooth.

She told me to call back before May 5 and I can probably get the reduced rate again.  In the Saab, I really want the reduced rate because 90 percent of the features don't work.  I could have had free directions for 6 months instead of minutes, but you can't even use the directions in a Saab.

Just did the same deal. Had to talk with the someone in the cancelation department, as well. Price breakdown was $169 for 'Safe and Sound' + $50 for 'Directions and Connections'. Total was the $219 for 12 months.
Thanks for posting.

just talked to three people, last one from the Loyalty Dept.; best deal:  Safe/Sound for one year, 100 minutes, $169 plus tax and fees (?).  I told her I might cancel prior to my expiration date.  Did not renew at this time.  Will see if they send me a better offer between now and my expiration date.

FYI,  I spoke with multiple specialists and as of the new year, they no longer allow the buyup of directions and connections to be added to the $169 rate, so you can either get the $169 rate for "safe and sound" or for $50 you can add directions and connections to the $199 rate.

Just renewed TWO GM vehicles at $149/year for the safe & sound plan. Here's how it happened. Cancelled one of my GM vehicles last August at which time the best they would offer me to keep it active would have been $159/year. This is pretty much a summer car only (we live in the mid-west snow belt area) so I didn't care if it sat in the garage with no OnStar. Then got TWO e-mails over the winter. One on Jan10th 2014 and another just the other day March 10 2014. They were BOTH begging me to come back for the $149/year plan. I jumped on it BUT not without a 1 hour 13 minute conversation with the customer loyalty team out of Warren Mich! Anyways long story short, got 1 year renewed on the seasonal sports sedan and 4 years on a new GM pickup we just purchased. Both vehicles were given the $149/yr plan. It really won't get any better than that for the safe & sound plan!

Does anyone know how that road side assistance works?

AAA does not offer hands free  bluetooth connection to your phone. The Onstar phone will work in remote areas where a cell won't, i know from camping up north. Also if you crash and are unable to move Onstar has automatic crash response  . AAA can't hold a candle to ONStar Service.

  Push the onstar button
operator comes on and gives you options
If you have a roadside plan, onstar will call them and make the arrangements for service
Worked very well for me with Chevy roadside, real easy
