What's CNN?

would never think to turn them on anymore --- if some thing bad happens in the world my info is coming off the internet

Wolf Blitzer shot somewhere? A long long time ago...

It's amazing that CNN has never broken a major story in its 3 decades of existence, and except for war coverage it's never been a leader. It's also never done well in ratings, except when an attention-grabbing news story was happening, which is why it started to air so many idiotic political commentary shows during the lulls. Fox News is basically nothing but such shows, and they let Fox News get by with half the news budget.

That's because lots of news happens in DontGiveAFarkistan.

9/11/2001, excluding the minutes spent getting coffee in the cafeteria.

Wikipedia disagrees. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CNN#September_11_attacks CNN was the first channel to break the news of the September 11 attacks.[12] Anchor Carol Lin was on the air to deliver the first public report of the event. She broke into a commercial at 8:49 a.m. ET

Al Jazeera has better news coverage than most, if not all, news channels in the US.

BBC and Al Jazeera are both excellent news channels in my opinion.

Al Jazeera does have good coverage. The only problem is the nagging suspicion watching it puts you on a FBI watch list.

How are NPR and PBS's ratings doing? The reports can be brilliant, but if no ones cares...

terrorism =/= war

I'm surprise how I don't know how Nova and Frontline do. How does your favorites compare?

I don't know if they're rated or not. But I think you misinterpreted my initial point, which was that American's in general just don't give a hoot.

At work, the other day, but the vast majority of the TV's on the campus are tuned to Fox. Large flat panels, at lest 46", everywhere you turn outside of the actual areas where returns are processed. No TV's and certainly no cameras in the mail or processing rooms. They'll come down hard if they even catch anyone with their phone camera active. Like, the friendly DHS cops will escort them out of the building, once they search their phone and make sure they don't have any sensitive info in there.

fox is on right now, will switch back to cnn at 1800. at work we go back and forth all day - at home I don't watch either.

I was trying to give you and the American people the benefit of the doubt when I mentioned that high quality PBS and NPR were more popular than low quality Fox News and talk radio.
