I don't win very often, and sometimes I ᴡin something I can't even use (Al Rocker's Book Of Barbecue from Kraft Foods), and sometimes I ᴡin something I really didn't expect. That would be through a John Frieda freebie for a Go Blonder kit if you submitted a blonde hair care tip. Everybody who submitted a tip, got a trial kit with shampoo, conditioner and lightening spray. If your tip was selected and published on their website, you won a John Frieda straightening iron and designer toiletries bag. I was surprised when notified by email that my tip was selected for publication, and I needed to download and print out an affidavit and sign, notarize and mail back to John Frieda to receive my prize. I did as instructed, and received my prize. This was last Fall. It was on the December winners listed posted on the John Frieda Facebook page.
a) Just because you haven't won, doesn't make it fake. If you read the fine print, you could request a winners list from every contest you entered. It's in the rules, typical towards the end. b) Your chances are greater when the prize pool is larger, and the prizes are smaller. The big prizes always have smaller odds. c) If you really feel that they are fake, then stop entering them. d) whining about it on FatWallet is not going to increase your odds or help you win. d) I'd happily give you my Kraft cookbook prize, but I sold it on eΒay.
ETA: To get rid of annoying iᴡin links.

I won!
Maybe you are trying contests that are too big. I was looking at reviews for those "curated monthly box subscription" type programs, and found one woman's blog where she reviewed a few of them. Most recent review had a contest ("leave a comment to enter" type) to win a free box (one box, not a whole subscription).
Less than 20 people had entered, so I figured, what the heck.
I was the last entry, next morning she choose - ME! Randomly!
I got a neat box of kitchen-related stuff, about $60 worth if I remember right.
I think the key really was that so few people had entered. Figure with 20 entries, you've got a 5% chance of winning if it's random. That's not too shabby!
Sort of made my day!

Wait, Thomas Jefferson knew about the interwebs? And we thought Al Gore invented it! Yet it was actually Ben Franklin who invented the internet. He invented the iPad too. Steve Jobs found the design in Franklins' drawings. I found all the above on the internet, and we all know that if you find it online, it must be true!
