Sheriff: Dad kills daughter's alleged attacker The Associated Press Updated: 12:46 p.m. Monday, June 11, 2012 Published: 11:52 a.m. Monday, June 11, 2012
A father beat to death with his hands a man who tried molesting his 4-year-old daughter after the little girl was heard screaming on the family's rural Texas ranch, authorities said Monday. Lavaca County Sheriff Micah Harmon said the father, whose name has not been released, is unlikely to be arrested for Saturday's killing and that no evidence so far has led investigators to doubt his story. "There doesn't appear to be any reason other than what he told us," Harmon said.
Harmon said the victim was a 47-year-old man from Gonazles with no apparent prior criminal history. His name continued to be withheld Monday because authorities still hadn't tracked down any of his family. The victim was an "acquaintance" of the father who had come to help care for some horses, Harmon said. He did not know how long the two men may have known each other.
The girl was taken to a hospital to be examined and has since been released, Harmon said. The father called police late Saturday afternoon and told them he attacked a man caught trying to sexually assault his daughter, Harmon said. The alleged attack happened near a barn where some horses were being kept. "In the course of trying to get her away from him, and protect her, he struck the subject several times in the head and the subject died," Harmon said. Harmon said a grand jury will decide what, if any, charges the father will face. The victim's body was sent to the Travis County medical examiner for an autopsy. The ranch near Shiner is about 130 miles east of Houston. Killings are rare in rural Lavaca County: Harmon said his office has only investigated six since in his eight years as sheriff. ___ June 11, 2012 01:46 PM EDT Copyright 2012, The Associated Press. If his story holds up, I don't see a problem with the end result.

In another report, I read this will go to a grand jury.
I think what caught my attention more than anything was that he beat the other man with his hands. Beat him to death with his hands. I can understand that kind of rage, but I can't imagine actually doing it.

It's actually not that hard to do. The human body is a fairly fragile thing. A couple of well placed (or lucky) blows is all it would take. I have a three year old niece, and if I caught someone doing that to her, you better believe they'd be on their way to meet their great and shiny maker inside of thirty seconds if nobody pulled me off of them.
If he pounded the guy after he was subdued, it's manslaughter. Though I doubt he would get convicted under the circumstances

not true. This occurred on his property. If texas has a "no duty to retreat" type law (I'd be amazed if it doesn't) then he does not have a responsibility to seek a less fatal outcome. If he had a gun, he could empty the clip, if he's using his fists, he can beat the guy until candy comes out.
if they make it illegal to kill someone, only criminals will be killing people

I don't remember Travon actively sexually assaulting a little girl at the time. However, he was black, had a hoodie on, and was eating skittles, so I guess it is almost the same.....

I can't imagine a four year old even being allowed to go out alone on a ranch without an adult somewhat nearby.

I think I read she was near the barn where the attacker was working. I would assume the dad was close by since he was able to respond quickly. Probably since she was born on the ranch, she has been taught since she could walk where she can and can't go.

The connection, which you don't seem to be able to make is that yes you can beat someone to death. Now where are all the people crying for the police to arrest him, to let a jury decide if he was right or wrong? Where's the investigation? You going to have it fair across the board, or you going to play the hyprocrit? Do you only want justice for black people?
Am I just expected to take the word of a ranch owner? He could have easily killed the man then said his daughter was touched. I'm still disappointed at all of you, still taking whatever the media tells you at face value. You sheep still don't get it. You blindly believe whatever you're told, and the only thing determining how you sway is how the media sells it to you.
So yes, if you're not making the connection between these 2 cases, then you're just blindly following whatever you're told. I challenge you to think critically on these "stories" that come up, don't just accept whatever you're being told as gospel.
The media sells a story, leaving but one question up to its readership. In this case they make you assume all the preconiditons then we debate on here whether a father has the right to kill his young daughter's attacker. Oh yeah the police don't question the facts. The police eventually believed zimmerman's story, that didn't have any bearing on the media.

How come in this PC climate, we can automatically assume an accused man was trying to molest a 4 year old girl, but we automatically asumme a black youth with a past history of petty crime is nothing but a saint?

the martin-zimmerman style reactions are silly. The media reported that a 4 year old girl was sexually assaulted. There's no room for spin, either she was assaulted or she wasn't. If she wasn't, then the relatives of the deceased are make a lucrative career out of suing newspaper editors.

All homicides in Texas have to go to a grand jury, even if the facts show that they were clearly justified. If it's a clear cut case then the grand jury should quickly vote not to indict.

"The ranch near Shiner is about 130 miles west of Houston. Killings are rare in rural Lavaca County. hope the little girl gets a happy childhood and privacy.
Death ruled a homicide, so it's going to the grand jury. Note, there is a witness who told the police that "Flores was seen forcibly carrying the girl to a secluded area... When the girl’s dad found out, he began calling her name, and when he heard her screams, he moved in."

Great news the grand jury has declined to indict the father.
A young Texas father who beat to death with his fists a man molesting his 5-year-old daughter will not be charged, authorities said Tuesday, as they released a dramatic 911 tape of the dad frantically pleading to send help before the man died.
A Lavaca County grand jury on Tuesday declined to indict the 23-year-old father in the death of Jesus Mora Flores, 47, who was killed June 9 on a family ranch so remote that the father is heard profanely screaming at a dispatcher who couldn't locate the property.

Isn't it better when we have corroboration and more facts then just some sensationalist no-info-needed news story.

I think it was mentioned earlier, but in TX, almost everything goes to the grand jury. That was no surprise.

The latest story I read said that the dead guy was found with his pants around his ankles and a medical exam confirmed that the girl had been sexually assaulted. Sounds like the dad's use of force was legitimate and the dead guy got what he deserved.
