Our air conditioner is noisy and works poorly so I started looking for a new one that's energy star rated. I looked at the store sites, don't see anything great. I got on here, found a couple ok deals including a Frigidaire with a 5 year warranty. Then I checked on getting Cash Back, and can get 2% through here on Lowes. If I pick the air conditioner up in Iowa, I can pay lower sales tax. There are 10% off coupons online or from the post office, so I found one of those. Then I got gift cards online at a discounted rate. I just can't help but feel there's still got to be more money left on the table that I can take off.
319 for the air conditioner -10% equals 287.10
tax is 7% instead of 7.5% and we'll be over there anyway. = 20.10 bringing the total to 307.10
Cash Back should take 2% off of this total, so about $6 back
I paid 230 for a 250 gift card on eBay (and got $4.50 in eBay bucks) and 46.63 for a 50 gift card = 276.73 + 7.10 cash = 283.83 minus $4.50 Cash Back (eBay), and $6.14 (fatwallet)

Anyone have any better strategy?

blackmail?

Have you tried offering a virgin as sacrifice to Tim Storm?

I question the first word in your post. who is "our"? Is this your house? your mom's? a rental? It sounds like you're looking for an in-the-window unit, have you cosidered putting in central air?

It would be cheaper just to tough it out

Expect that post office/change of address coupon to void Cash Back. When those are used, we typically are not paid a commission. Best of luck, and stay cool.

Last A/C unit I bought I went over to hhgregg and told him WalMart had them $30 cheaper. So he took the $30 bucks off and sold it to me.

Go work for Amazon!

I'm assuming this is a window AC unit.

Our Electric company offers a bounty on old AC units. Its either $25 or $50 to turn in the dead on at a qualified recycling center with proof of purchase of a new unit. Does your Electric company offer anything like that?

Our household current Lowes formula is this: Use AMEX (%6 Cash Back) for purchase of Lowes gift cards at local grocery store (12% off) then use a Post office/eBay coupon (10% off), then try to use a click through (FatCash 2%, as stated above this may not work-good info), for a total percentage off of 30% off. You can also mix in pricematches from other stores (missing out on the clickthrough) or salvage of the replaced item.

How do you get the lowest price?

Write the letter " t " on your Lowes receipt.
(too easy)

Very YMMV, but you can try a Harbor Freight 20% off coupon.

stage flash mobs in the store until you either:

A. Get tired of dancing, or
B. realize you could just live in the store for free a/c

Of course, you have a disability that requires AC, right? Have your Doc write a Rx for it and dance with your health insurance bean counters. Also check and see if your electric utility offers a discount to the disabled.

No disability, just I work in a factory building all day and like to come home and relax. I'd just rather save money like anyone else. I just didn't know if other people have certain strategies or methods for getting deals.

I checked my email and I'm getting FatWallet CashBack on the full amount (after 10% off)...at least so far the email showed a Cash Back amount of $6.19
