Yeah I agree. People like Hitchens are extremely against all religions thinking its outmoded superstitious nonsense but at least hes fair about it. He doesnt like all of them. Not just a knee jerk anti-christian. However frankly the former two biggest communist countries recently decriminalized homosexuality in 1993 and 1997 and there were riots when they tried to have a parade recently so its not exclusively a religious thing.
I was listening to the radio yesterday and the host said that the lbg organization that receives money from Wal-Mart (a % of sales made when using the Wal-Mart affiliate link on the org's website) has gotten a total less than $5 over the past 4 years.
There are nuts in the left wing, right wing, and in the middle. This is a cultural issue that attracts vehement religious and anti-religion basket cases.

they were attacked by the radical christian groups last year for saying "holiday" instead of christmas ... this year they are going to say christmas. who the hell really cares. we all know wallymart doesn't care about the people - only the bottom line. so why should anyone be offended?
