I didn't see it but someone else did. I found a note in my windshield with the license number and business name on the vehicle that hit me and took off, along with the business card of the person that saw it happen.

It's only a small scratch, but it's the point. I'm going to call the business tomorrow and let them know what their employee did with a company vehicle. Like I said, it was a small scratch, but it was there. I don't need to have it repaired, but how many times has this bozo done this before and NOT been caught.

Use your self-defense course on him...that'll teach him! UNLEASH the power!

I wasn't able to get in touch with the man who saw it and I've left a message for the manager of the business who owned the vehicle. I just want them to know what their driver did. And of course thank the person who left me the note. I'm guessing he must have bumped me hard for him to have left me the note.

It was nice of him to do that for you...many people don't want to get involved.

But it was definitley cool the witness bothered leaving you the note.
So many people don't bother with things like that these days. And you'd never know otherwise.
The person who left the note gets green!

Yes, it was nice. "Commander Mike, US Navy" will get a thank you call from me.

That sucks!
I had that happen to my car by a tractor-trailer. He hit my car and took off. Luckily, a neighbor saw it happen and took down the license plate # and company name. I called them the next morning, explained what happened, they were very accommodating. They ended up paying $2850.00 to the auto body place for damages.

My car got hit before too like that in the street parked legally. Left a small dent in the bumper of my hooptie at the time. The guy left me a long note, saying how sorry he was and that he was too poor to pay me any money for it. Said he sold fertilizer and mulch out of the back of his truck for a living (door to door at that) and left a 25lb bag of mulched mint leave fertilizer on my porch.

I called him up and told him to hit my car again, I need another 25lbs for the garden too. We laughed about it.

Hopefully you can get your scratch fixed, and do it before it starts to oxidize and rust!

I'm sorry SL, I was in a huge hurry.

Seriously, I hope it all works out for you.

My Firebird got hit by someone at the hotel I worked at in the mid 80's. They left a note with a phone number but there was never an answer and it was eventually disconnected. It was a deep scratch/ding and I just had it fixed when I had the car painted.
Another time, this doofus sideswiped my S-15 pickup while it was parked on the street. Myself and my girlfriend at the time were babysitting a house down in the inner city (Westport). The thing is, I was standing on the porch watching the whole thing and he was driving a work van with "LAKE 1" on the license plate, not too hard to remember. He knocked the mirror off my truck and I made him buy me a new one. I installed it myself since body shops rape you on labor.

Firebird + 80's = Mullet

You know it! But then, it was in style then, and I was in a couple of heavy metal bands. I also had something else you might have heard of, called "girlfriends".

glad you're okay. sorry about the car. Pics?

That stinks, but it's cool that the other guy left his card...

A few years ago I was parked on the street near work. I got a call at the helpdesk asking if I had a red PT Cruiser. Yes, why? The person told me that someone had hit their car and pushed it into mine. Walked out to where I was parked and saw like 3 cop cars.

Turned out that a hit and run driver had plowed into the Accord parked behind me and pushed it into mine. They never caught the guy. I was lucky, I just had a bumper cover and broken backup light, but the woman whose car was behind me was totaled. Luckily, my uninsured motorist cover covered all but the $250 deductible.

By calling the owner first, he has the opportunity to wash and wax the car to get rid of all the paint chips and deny everything, witness or not.

because honestly, there isn't damaage. There might be a small scratch, but nothing different from the other 20 dings I've gotten. It was an out of state vehicle, and there were multiple witnesses.

He called me back earlier tonight. What an ass. It was the manager or owner or whatever of the company who was in town to help his daughter move from her UVa dorm to an apartment. He not only admitted hitting me and just looking out his window to see if there was any damage, but admitted a woman yelled at him when he started leaving. I told him that wasn't even the person who left me his license number and if he has trouble driving the truck, perhaps he needs to park it at the empty end of a parking lot. He told me his truck was big and he didnt have much room to back up (like it was Target's fault that he can't drive).

I don't think there's much the police will do without any real damage. But hopefully he's figured out if he's going to drive like that, he's not going to get away with it in my town. He can stay the fark in Maryland from now on.

There may not be damage, but hit-and-run is still a crime.

SleazyBastard said: There may not be damage, but hit-and-run is still a crime. I'll talk to the witness tomorrow and find out what he saw. I might do that after talking to the driver today. He really was rude about it like it TOTALLY wasn't his fault.

fark him, turn his rude ass in.

You should have called the police, regardless of the damage. Some idiot did this to me years ago, tore my bumper half off and drove away. A young man saw the whole thing and got a description of the car, and the tag number, and left a note in my windshield. He was still in the area when he saw me approaching my car and identified himself as a witness, and described what he saw. Woman driving a big boat of a car, was trying to pull in in front of mine (parallel park along the street), and caught my bumper, then tried pulling out, taking my bumper with her. I went across the street to the 7-11 and asked the clerks to call the police, and my friend and I bought slurpee's and sat in my car waiting for the town's deputies to arrive.

The witness left his phone # so the police could contact him. They took an intial report, and contacted me after speaking to the witness and going to the driver's house. I bet she was mighty surprised to see the cops show up at her door! She was charged with hit-and-run, leaving the scene of an accident. Her insurance company sent an agent out to look at my car, and they cut me a check for $120 for a Body Shop to fix it. My local mechanic did it for $40, it was an old car, and didn't need a perfect fix. Seriously, report it, and let the guy's insurance fix it and penalize him for it. It's obvious the guy hasn't learned a thing. Even minor damage like that, will need fixing sooner or later; you shouldn't have to pay a dime for something that was his fault.

You got your car fixed at this Body Shop? I would have never guessed it would be that kind of shop? Goes to show what I know!
Hmmm? I wonder what they would charge for some small touch-up work or a light buffing?

Guess it all depends on how they'd fix a 'front bumper' whether $120 would have been enough. Looking at the website, touch-up work or a light buffing may be cheaper than any of my local body shops. (Darn FW automatic linking feature...)

Yea, I've noticed you've got your fair share of bad drivers. I don't know if they just drive bad when they're visiting my area or if they're like that all the time. I usually avoid anyone with Maryland plates because, chances are, they're going to do something stupid.

Call the cops and report it. If he has done this once, he would have no problem doing it again. Not much of a role model for his daughter. I think he will really appreciate the drive back for his court date. I have been hit and run and this stuff makes me pretty pissed. Add the attitude to this and there is no way I would let it slide, especially since you have witnesses. I wouldn't deal with the guy at all. The cops will contact him and his insurance will call you. All he had to do was leave a note or atleast be civil.

"It's only a small scratch"

$2000.

So, it must be my turn for some car damage. I have an '04 Camry and try to take care of it but came out of Kroger's tonight to find a really nice thick vertical scratch down the passenger door. It looks like someone threw open their door and it hit my car. The damage not only scratched the paint, but contains what I guess I could call hairline dents, so if I get it repainted, the dents will still be there. This sucks! Unfortunately I didn't have a knight in shining armor taking down a license number and tucking it under my wind shield!

I was hit today by a guy in a pickup truck. He started yelling at me in Spanish which I don't know at all so I called the cops. Turns out he has no papers or driving license and no insurance.

Yeah I'm going to have to shell out $500 (my deductible) but I still felt sorry for him as he's probably going to land in jail and he's just a poor guy trying to survive.

Illegal alien. Have him deported.

Hit and run and leaving the scene of an accident are both criminal offenses--regardless of whether they occur on private property or a city maintained street. Call the cops (non emergency line) have them come out and give them the story. If they are able to cite this person and the victim in this case is willing to pursue charges it can be done!

dandan123 said: ...I still felt sorry for him as he's probably going to land in jail and he's just a poor guy trying to survive.

Cry me a river. We're all trying to survive, and for me it's tough enough without additional grief from someone who's here illegally and driving a potentially lethal weapon of destruction without permission and without the financial ability to pay for damages and harm he may cause while illegally driving. In my book that's not only illegal, but immoral. He should be in jail, and then deported.

Surely you jest? I don't have issues w/ immigrants being here--but when they can't do it legally and don't abide by the laws of this country then boot their ass back to wherever they came from.

I know lots of "poor" guys trying to survive--but they manage to have a drivers license and insurance on their vehicles.

Skipping 19 Messages...

"Day laborers" in my area make $10 - $15 per hour. Of course no taxes are taken out. I understand their position, I don't fault them, I think what they're doing is even noble to some degree. But I think that if they take a chance, like driving without insurance, then they should suffer the consequences when something goes wrong. I also believe the same punishment should be applied to a legal resident who drives without insurance. Insurance is not an option, it's the price a responsible person pays drive a car. What's so difficult to understand there?

If it takes 20 years to get a visa, than that's how long it takes. One can't go into Best Buy and just shoplift a BluRay player because the prices aren't falling fast enough.

I was born in a European country, my parents filed for immigration, the waited years, they had to have a sponsor, if they couldn't meet their financial obligations they could not get a handout from the American citizens, they would need to rely on their sponsors.

My first recollection of life in America was sitting in a classroom with my Mother and sister learning English. Our native language was not allowed in our house. I have no doubt my father would have walked to work, or crawled on his knees, before driving without insurance. That's because he has a deep respect for America and its laws and is grateful for its opportunities. Opportunities that are available because we are largely a nation of rules and laws and the majority of people follow those laws. My parents did not apply for citizenship for my sister and I, they left that decision up to us.
