Yikes! Not sure how to approach the holiday this year! Is anyone doing anything special for their SO? Any creative ideas out there? I think this is cool - http://www.youtube.com/user/greatestlovestories Thoughts? Ideas?
I've been married 16 years and I'm tired of trying to make valentine's day "special". I'm getting hubby that Popcorn Factory variety tin that was posted in hot deals a few days back.
DH usually makes heart shaped rice krispy treats and dyes them pink. Then he cooks a prime rib and brings out a bottle of wine... which ends up giving him what he wants.
I'm really bad at valentines day.. so he usually gets a video game of some kind.
I've made a nice dinner for the two of us for the last 10 years. This year, we're going out for dinner with two other couples for Valentine's day. Should be nice for a change. Haven't figured out anything to give him yet, but I'll be inspired with an idea by then, I hope.

I bought the wife of 3.5 years a trip to San Diego. I of course get to go along. 4 days away from the cold on Chicago to spend in So Cal.

We are actually staying in Encinitas. Got tickets to the zoo already so we are hoping for at least 1 nice day.

Is it just that I'm becoming more aware of my seemingly permenant state of single-hood, or does V-day get more hype every year? Target had V-day stuff out while I was still picking through the candy to find the clearance ones with Christmas holly on the package, and I've been getting emails from pretty much every store I've ever bought something from (including, of all places, Home Depot) telling me about the great gifts they sell for my non-existent significant other.
In other words, my cat and I will be spending V-day pretty much the same way as MM, except I don't really drink much anymore and I don't watch Lost. At least the gym will probably be pretty empty that night...

Sounds like everyone has fun plans to look forward to. I unfortunately will not be with my Valentine this year, it is our first apart. I can always send something but I don't have any great ideas, which is why I thought the video contests were fun ideas. I could be really cheesy and make it full of inside jokes that would make it really funny for us! For those of you who have been apart in the past or are going to be this year did you send something or how did you make it special?

For those of you who have been apart in the past or are going to be this year did you send something or how did you make it special? My husband was in Germany one year for Valentine's Day. He was there for 6 months, although I did get to go over to visit for 6 weeks later in the trip.
I sent him a few gifts, and found some good friends and we cooked a nice dinner together that night. I think V Day is about being with those you love, whether it's friends, a significant other, or family.
Where are all the Valentines flower deals? There were lots last year in the hot deals forum.

My hubby and I don't usually do Valentine's day. Our anniversary is the day after. He usually gets me a mini rose bush every year.... that he usually kills a few months later (mows it over with the lawn mower or his 4 wheeler). Maybe it's a sign
Having given up on finding something red that he will like/appreciate/enjoy (the red sweater last year was...hmmm, oh well) IF I can figure out the name of his optometrist I hope to order the sunglass clips for his glasses that he lost. Then I can write in the card something corny like, "so you can continue to only have eyes for me." buahahahaha!

Actually, you don't for Valentine's Day... but you definitely may want to look into March 14th... that's when us guys get our dues for doing a good job! =)
Do a google search for, "march 14 steak and" ... and you'll see what we get as a reward!
