ONe problem is that officials are afraid of them to a degree. and frequent, periodic searches whenever the government would like when the group has a history of something like this. I just don't know what the solution could be. Over 400 children need a safe environment and counseling, and so do all those women. Where do we come up with the money to pay for this? And how do you search without probable cause? You just can't show up every few months and say "we have a warrant to search" without a reason. I wouldn't even want the gov't to have that much power! How about the simple fact that they have more than one wife! And I can't imagine brainwashing is legal! |

Edit to say, jk! |

DNA/paternity testing is about to start so they can get these kids identified. Sad that a kid doesn't even know for sure who is his/her momma. |

I question a "religion" that uses taxpayer money to support itself. Polygamist have one legal wife. The rest of their holy union wives and children are on public assistance as single mothers with children. Was reading a bit earlier about the financial drain on the states like Utah and Arizona. |

Yes, I have a problem with that also, but I have a problem with fraudulent and/or unnecessary public assistance in general. |

I heard that the volunteers at the shelter where they have the kids, gave them crayons to color with, the kids had no idea what to do with them! I think, I also heard they are not schooling them. So, most of these women probably have no education either! Wow, what a catch! Ugly, dumb, inbred, uni brow, and only 13! Where is Chris Hansen when we need him! |

It is also interesting to me that polygamy is also practiced by plenty of Muslims here in American, but nothing is ever mention about that. I have a friend in Detroit who says he lives nearby more than a few Muslim families where there are multiple wives, but law enforcement looks away. As Islam becomes larger part of religious community here in the US, this will become a big sticking point concerning religious freedom. |

That may be the big difference. Many people can look they other way when it comes to multiple wives, but not when in comes to sex with a child. |

I am just meaning polygamy as form of religious expression will not be going away any time soon. This whole situation with FLDS is about the children to me. They talk of the girls being abused sexually but I also saw a piece on what they call Lost Boys for boys who get kicked out when they reach puberty so that the young girls can be taken by the old men. Disgusting all the way around! |
