Ever since I got my brid Highlander I am addicted to hypermiling...Folks behind me honk and give me finger salute when I drive at posted speed limit in LA...I need a bumper sticker to let them know that I am hypermiling and saving the planet and saving gas...

We're talking LA here!
I'm agreeing with Mikey here, hypermiling with a Highlander? So what if it's a hybrid, that's like ordering a diet coke with your super-sized meal and telling everyone you're eating healthy...
Do you spend your days thinking up ways to be more of an ass than we already think you are?
DRIVING WITHOUT BRAKES (or in hypermiling lingo, "d.w.b.") is all about coasting. Congestion is constant in Washington, and accelerating from zero to 20, then back to zero, is inefficient. Instead, if the car in front of you is speeding up, maintain a steady speed and let it get ahead of you, when traffic starts to slow back down you'll catch up.
Expert's take: Do it when possible -- but be careful. "You're probably going to have some highly ticked off people if you do it on the Beltway," Goss warns.
TURN OFF YOUR CAR AND COAST , aka the "forced-auto stop." In hybrids, the internal combustion engine shuts off at stops to conserve fuel; the electric batteries keep the car running. To save even more fuel when decelerating, some hypermilers -- including Gerdes -- shift to neutral and turn off the engine while coasting to a stop.
Expert's take: "Highly dangerous. You don't have your car under control," says Goss. (In other words, not all hypermiling techniques are good ones.)
You're lucky all you are getting is the Italian salute.

I'm thinking about getting a bumper sticker too, and it might say something like:
IOU said: give corgs a nice long deep frenchy kiss above he-her's she-man parts and she will get it for you ill do anything for a long deep frenchy kiss!
a highlander? lol, talk about thinking your better then everyone else.
I think everyone showing you the bird is right, and your just being a jerk.
A regular highlander gives 19 mpg on street ...my brid gives me 34 mpg on street...isnt it better? Compare suvs with suvs not with other types of cars.
also its not just mpg by driving a hybrid you reduce the amount of co2 pumped into the air.

lol, like the other poster said:
its like getting a diet soda with a supersize meal.
Yes its less calories.
But a salad is still better.
the amount of c02 created is a direct result of how much gas you are burning. Having a hybrid doesn't make the per gallon co2 release any different.
And BTW, one off MPG numbers mean nothing.
Standard EPA rating:
2008 highlander hybrid: city 27 Ccombined 26 highway 25

yes but i use the gallon to drive more miles with a brid than a regular car.

Garbage.... I have a corolla and a matrix...Most times when our family has to go long distance we have to take the 2 cars ( 5 adults and 1 kid)..Now I only take the brid highlander as I got the 7 seater ..so yes there is a reason i bought a suv.
The standards you mentioned are WITHOUT hypermiling. I even know someone who got 50 MPG on HiHy. There are some settings to be done when u drive a brid. Eg: Toyota says have 32 psi max in tires. But hypermilers like me keep 40 psi on all 4 tires ..The sidewall says 44 is max...Thats one of the reasons we get higher MPG than the manual says.

Maybe. Not necessarily.
wrong. Its always true you get more miles witha brid than a regular. Even if you dont hypermile you get 25-28 mpg on street where as a regular one gives you 16-19 mpg.

Compare your Highlander SUV to a manual shift Corolla, which gets 28/37.

But yet that isn't good enough for you? You need to risk the safety of everyone around you by coasting in neutral, shutting off your engine to coast, and driving much slower than traffic around you? And WHY would you want to advertise you are doing this? Do you think people will smile and wave as you distrupt traffic and cause collisions?
MarsdenFubar said: Real world numbers that's pretty damn funny. I get 21.3 doing NOTHING with my SUV.
oh, and I'm not disrupting the flow of traffic either.

I need more coffee... that stuff bothers me. There are enough asshole drivers on the road without encouraging this.
OP, I don't care what kind of vehicle you have. But if you are driving an SUV, I don't want to hear your tree hugging crap, or for you to think you can stick a sign on your car touting tree hugging and think that it's now okay for you to drive like an idiot.

I need to put a turbine windmill on top of my house, and then get a pure electric car!

Becuase he made a statement that a Hybrid always gets better MPG than a car, and that's not true.
RED!!!! I wonder if that's what the idiot in front of me this morning was doing. He was driving 25 in a 45 mile zone and in the left lane.
LOL...was it a brid?
There are a bunch of those geeks here in So Cal....They get yelled at constantly.

It's only funny if you are driving a gas guzzling SUV.
I think that is the article where i saw it in and got the idea... As for tuning the car unfortunately new O2 sensors cost $300 which is money i don't have though i know i need new ones. I've already been driving at the 55 mph speed limit. It has helped alot. Getting the gauge to show the exact mph was mostly just because i like having a visual reminder... not worth $160 to me though.
