So I had bought myself one of those stretchy bands to do some workouts. It came with a piece of nylon strap that fit in the top of a door so I could loop the band through it to do some exercises. Basically, I shoved the nylon in the top of a door frame - between the frame and the top of the door, and pushed the door shut as tight as it would go in order to wedge the nylon in there. Now I'm trying to open the door, and remove the nylon, and the door won't even open. I've tried pulling both the nylon and the door at different angles for the last hour, but nothing. I'm contemplating getting a crowbar to get some better leverage - just wondering if there's any other ideas that anyone might have?

Turn the doorknob on the inside and have someone throw their weight against the door from the outside.

Remove the pins from the doors hinges.

If that doesn't work, use an ax and consider the cheap rubber band a very expensive lesson. OTOH, you will get some exercise in swinging the ax and then replacing the door with a new one once you've chopped your way out.

Don't forget to reenact that scene from the Shining, "Here's Johnnny"

Take the pins out of the hinges and remove the door. Done and over with in 15 minutes.

Gently wedge a large flat screw driver next to the band and pry while you pull the door open.

Thanks for everyone's help. Gonna try and take the hinges off tomorrow morning.

Why not try some lubrication? Sometimes force isn't the answer, and will just make things worse.

Anything's possible with the right lube. Seriously, though, Battleshipnote is right. Start with a screwdriver before you start taking the door off it's hinges.
