NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. — Chick-fil-A restaurant founder S. Truett Cathy has decided two girls accused of causing $30,000 in damage to his home should be punished with a writing assignment instead of charges.
In a deal Cathy worked out with their parents, the girls must write "I will not vandalize other people's property" 1,000 times. They're also banned from watching TV and playing video games and must read a good book.
New Smyrna Beach police told the Daytona Beach News-Journal the preteens broke into Cathy's home two weeks ago and sprayed fire extinguishers, threw eggs and left water running in the kitchen.
The 87-year-old Cathy — who founded the fast food chain known for its cow billboards — said he didn't want to prosecute the girls and leave them with a criminal record.
As preteens, there's little chance of them being locked up anyway. This is not such a bad move, except that I might have tossed in something for monetary damages, like giving up allowance for a while.

T. Cathy is too nice and is actually doing the girls a disservice here. These girls are laughing at him and his naivety in thinking they'll learn from this by completing a writing assignment, no tv/video games & reading a book. These girls have no respect for him, his property, themselves or their parents for doing this - not to mention the law. He should fully prosecute & let them learn their lesson now, as opposed to later when they're adults.

I do have to say that I've noticed that the people employed at our local Chick-fil-A's are of a different....um...shall we say caliber(?)...than the ones at McD's, Wendys, Taco Hell, etc.
They are all so clean looking, clean cut and they are actually extrememly friendly.
I've noticed the lately the few times I've been through McD's drive-thru that after speaking to place my order I'm not spoken to again. I pay and pick up my food without a single word being spoken to me. No thank you, kiss my butt or anything. They just grab up my debit card and throw my food at me without so much as a word.
That would NEVER in a million years happen at C-F-A.
