Story HereOutrageous move by Tyson, which should lose a ton of business (mine included) as this becomes known. Someone over there wasn't thinking too straight when they replaced Labor Day, a Federal secular holiday, with a religious day.

If this were a Christian holiday the ACLU would be in court arguing that Tyson violated the rights of the other workers.
So should they have replaced Christmas instead?
Uh, that's a non sequitur. I said nothing about Christmas.

Why Christmas is even considered a Federal holiday is beyond me. It IS a religious holy day, not a secular holiday.FYI, Christmas is a Federal holiday because Congress enacted it into law. Don't take jmy word, you can look it up yourself.
Christmas is now more of a "stimulate the economy" day and not a holy day. Everyone knows that!

not so, every christmas I read the TRUE christmas story and around these parts the TRUE reason for the season gets noticed more. but this is the state than doesn't "free the vibes" for women.

(although, a joke with some amount of truth!)

I'm sure there are Somali refugess who want to become Americans, but they don't seem to in the majority among those who voted to ditch Labor Day.
So which holiday should they have given up?
Birthday
New Year's Day
Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Memorial Day
Independence Day
Thanksgiving Day
Christmas Day
Labor Day

No matter which holiday you choose to give up, someone's going to have a problem with it. Since 700 or the 1200 employees are Muslim, they could easily have voted to get rid of Christmas, since Christmas has the least significance for Muslims, but they didn't. They chose the holiday which most Americans celebrate on the weekend.

Goodwill gestures like this are more effective at ending terrorism than dropping bombs. Do you want to bet that there are now 700 Muslims who are less likely to support the terrorists? When the fanatics call for all Muslims to kill the evil Americans, I can think of 700 Muslims who will ignore the call.
Rather than accomodate people who you fear might support terrorism, doesn't it make more sense to invite Muslims and others who are pro-American in the first place?

Tolerance is very important.
I wonder what would happen to an American worker in Saudi Arabia, celebrating Christmas,or being caught with a Bible?

A visit from the Mutaween no doubt.

Saudi Arabia as a country has an unusual place in Islam since it's the site of Islam two main holy cities, and thus viewed as their keeper. It is effectively a very large version of Vatican City.

A church is going to be built with the Saudi King's support. I'm sure there are churches on our military bases as well. So the correct answer is likely nothing. There are churches in other gulf states as well.

We don't have much of a military presence in Saudi anymore because of this:

CNN said:Exiled Saudi Osama bin Laden has cited the presence of U.S. troops in Saudi Arabia as a core grievance in his self-proclaimed holy war against the United States. Fifteen of the 19 September 11 hijackers were from Saudi Arabia, according to the U.S. government.

From this article.

The Saudis basically caved to Al Queso and UBL after 9/11.

I didn't know that. Saudi is still getting a church with the king's blessing though.

They get their birthday, that's a personal holiday. Tyson doesn't want to have 9 days and insisted on 8 for whatever reason. The union could have given up the birthday and kept labor day.

The option to remove a Federal Holiday should not have even been on the table. It's not a Religious Holiday just a nice traditional American Holiday. Seems we are losing our Country a bit at a time

Huh? So you'd be for removing Christmas instead of Labor day?

Who is going to go to the church build with the kings blessings?
You'd have to be crazy to walk out of that church, and be identified,or have death wish.

christmas is religous holiday, as others are, they should all stay. I say for those that are offended because of the "muslim" holiday being reconized as christian ones are (root cause I think), just let em work that day cleaning factory or something. let em do something that has to be paid to outside contract service.

With friends like them who needs enemies? But doubtful a Country still living a few hundred years behind the times is going to become a superpower. At some point oil will no longer be needed and they will go back to just desert

Must we have the biggest, baddest, bestest of everything to everyone? No wonder why so many countries see us as arrogant!

Well, the Russians just announced plans to build 6 new large aircraft carriers and the associated support ships. Experts think this could herald a new cold war and that the Soviets, er, Russians have their eye on contesting the Arctic Ocean, because of the natural resources there. So Canada could have the Russian Navy on their doorstep in 4-6 years time. I personally have doubts about their financial and technical abiltiy to pull it off, but they've surprised me before.

PS> This could be especially dangerous since the Russians are on much better terms with the Chinese than they used to be.

It's just testosterone laden alpha dog mentality at work (and we wonder why gangs are so popular??) Things would be different if more females were in charge!
