I am growing my first veggie garden this spring. I planted most of it on March 9 and have added a lot of stuff gradually. I have several pots with tomatoes, strawberries, herbs, banana, lettuce, and nasturtiums. I also made two raised bed gardens with 8 inch wide by 4 foot long. In them I have blueberries, eggplants, two kinds of cucumbers, beets, carrots, squash, spring onion, and watermelon (which is spilling out of the box). I am also making a concrete path little by little. I have a topsy turvy tomato container with cherry tomatoes in it. I have tons of tomatoes on the vine but I have only harvested one so far.

i did get corn and green beans in today (alternating rows). also put in radish seeds, carrot seeds, and onion sets.

did you get it for a good price somewhere? seems kind of expensive for what it is. been hoping that they would go on sale.
i have been reading about caged or barrel potatoes and want to try to grow potatoes in a garbage can. there are lots of articles about it. i don't know where to get a rain barrel, so i guess i would have to use a garbage can. dh is completely against it. edited to say: i am searching on craigslist for a rain barrel, it might be slightly more attractive than a garbage can.

Not as cheap as from Blair, but lakeside.com have the topsy turvy tomato planter for $7.95 plus $5.95 shipping for me in the southeast (I think it's $1 more to ship to the west coast)

Collectionsetc.com have the same planter for $11.99 + $1.99 shipping (code 3FC4E1 exp 5/7) + processing fee.

As for the potatoes, Gardeners.com have this potato bin for $12.95 + shipping. Not as pretty as a wine barrel, though.

For rabbit control, get a couple of cats. And get some good stain remover because they'll bring the prey into the house. Do you know how hard it is to get blood out of the carpet?

ThursdaysChild said:For rabbit control, get a couple of cats...Average life span of an outdoor cat is about 1 year vs 14 for an indoor cat, especially here where coyotes roam the streets during the night, coming in from the forest preserves.ThursdaysChild said:...Do you know how hard it is to get blood out of the carpet?Use cold water (never hot) and after you've gotten out all you could, switch to club soda.

If there is a chance the police will use Luminol and DNA testing, more radical measures are required, such as removing the carpet itself and thoroughly drenching the floorboards with hydrogen peroxide.
